And yes, the 3-speeds are never touched. It actually amuses me. The value of these bikes isn't really that low. A 3-speed in good condition can get $400, sometimes more. They are immensely durable and reliable, but the bad guys just don't care.
Lucky for me, I don't need to lock a bike up for hours at a time. If I did, I might use a 3-speed.

Here's what I got:
2 Ladies Raleigh Sports - one form 60s and one from the 70s
2 Men's Raleigh Sports - one from the mid 70s and one from the early 50s
1 Raleigh SuperBee - from the early 60s
In the past month I picked up two other 3 speed bikes
this un-named one
for $5.00 and this Hercules for $8.00

I think I teared up a little...
As a bunch of us celebrate birthdays in the next few days we are going to go for a ride on Saturday, with the cooler weather a little whiskey will be the drink of choice... anyone in the neighbourhood is welcome to join us on what will be some epic random-ness.

The problem is that they are in here
and to get at any of the 3-Speed bikes, besides my daily ride, I probably have to remove 5 to 10 bikes

I'm excited to report that @gugie is working away doing surgery to my Raleigh twenty! Initially going to move the brake mounting plate down in the back, but instead decided to go in a different direction. Maybe he will post some progress pictures (I've seen them and it's good). Also adding some rear rack eyelet things (they look like metal tubes with threading inside each end - what are these called?) on the seat stays. Also asked him to remove the chain guard mounting piece.
I have Tektro 559 brakes on the front, but rear wouldn't fit. You know, this will mean that new paint may be in this Raleigh's future.

I am Shiva the Destroyer...
Velocivixen completely rebuilt this bike. She's an expert wheelbuilder, and laced up some cool V-section rims after completely overhauling the Sturmey Archer 3-speed hub. I worked at a bike shop for several years in my youth and never tried to service a 3-speed hub! I've got a torch, she doesn't, or you bet your sweet bippy she'd figure out how to do this herself.
I thought the rear brake bridge plate was brazed on, but I heated it up and it wouldn't budge. I ground off some paint and saw that this arc welded on. No problem, just carefully maneuver my grinder with a cut off wheel and remove little bits at a time until a tap of the hammer on one side, then the other and it was off. Please note that no seat stays were harmed during this operation.
After a dry fit of the new brake bridge position, I noticed that there was only about 10mm of clearance between the bridge and the tire with the brake pads on the Tektro's all the way down.
A few e-mails back and forth and we decided to try a curved, tubular brake bridge. I have various sizes of CrMo tubing in stock, I'll work on that tomorrow a bit. Unfortunately I found out today that my acetylene tank gauge is now on "E", no one's open on the weekend for a bottle exchange, so it'll have to wait until Monday at the earliest.
