CL Pic Loading Problem
I'm hoping someone here has the answer and I'm hoping the Mods don't move this to foo.
I'm having a problem loading pics directly onto CL. I copy the http version of the pic using my photobucket account, load it directly and it comes up, but then it's linked back to my Photobucket account. I really don't want everyone on the planet to see pics of all my bikes. Anyone got any ideas? I know it can be done because I did it several times before, but something has changed, or I'm getting old and forgot how to do it right.
My wife thinks it's the latter

I think there HAS been a change:
Photobucket is now allowing a hyperlink from CL directly into your albums, though it seems that the visitor (with no password) can see only the subject picture in the host album, along with the directory name and your Photobucket nickname:
- This at least is the case if your albums are Private, instead of shared/public. (All of my albums are private so I can't say for certain what happens with shared/public albums)
I suspect Photobucket probably views this as an "improvement".
PS- If you are logged into your own Photobucket account, accessing CL from your own computer you will of course enable you to navigate anywhere without restriction.
PPS- I just sent a note to Photobucket to confirm if there has been such a change. . . Supposedly they try to answer every persons's question. I will let you know if I hear back.

I think that photobucket and Flickr by default link the picture back to their sites (for ad revenues). Here is what you do:
Determine the URL of the picture (should be something simple like: https://xxx.photobucket.com/directory...rimagename.jpg (and this darn thing made it look like an actual link. it isn't). To find that: on firefox right click on the image, select view image and the URL will be on the URL box on the top of the page. In Explorer, right click, select properties and the image URL is in the pop up box under image URL. You can copy and paste from both places
use the img tags in the source of your write up should be something like this: <img src="https://xxx.photobucket.com/directory...rimagename.jpg">
You are home free

I just tried pasting the Image URL into my CL ad as you described using Firefox, and it hyper-linked back to the picture in my Photobucket album.
Just to be clear - this is something I don't think it should do.

Photobucket got back to me VERY quickly – they did not answer my question “is this a change?” but indicated essentially that CL visitors, when they click, will indeed see the posted image in the context of your Photobucket album (as pictured above) – but NO MORE than that, as long as your settings remain private.
BTW I did de-select "images link back to album option" in my account settings, and re-posted the image in both Photobucket and CL, but got the same result - so I obviously do not fully understand their response.
Their response follows:
Dear Auchen- - -
Please note that the account is private and no one can view the contents of the account without a password. What you are experiencing is due to autologging and to test this you will need to logout of your account. Please note that when you personally click on a posted image via MySpace you will be taken to that image as it displays in your album. View the upper right corner of the Photobucket page and make sure it states "Login". If in fact it is stating "logout" you have autologged. Your computer has cached your password.
Also know that there is a setting in your account that is slightly deceiving in the way it displays the images after clicking on a posted image. Please read the following FAQ link in regards to the images link back to album option and make sure you set it accordingly. Note that no posts made prior to the deselection of the option will be affected. You will need to repost. No one can view the contents of you album without the account password or the guest password. The account is secure.
Please read the FAQ -

Sincerely,
Your Photobucket Support Team

Bikes: I used to have many. And I Will again.
To improve security and not allow viewers to back track to other pics in your account, In the "Upload Images and Videos" box, click on the more options link.
There is an option to Scramble Link names for the uploaded pics.
Maybe this might help keep people out of other folders.
I've always selected the pics I wanted, then let Photobucket generate the HTML code, and one of the outputs will show properly on CL.

opera.com has very straightforward image hosting, also for free. photobucket is super-annoying.

I have always had the same problem, someone clicks on my flickr picture, and they access everything in my "open to the public" folder. My solution: I have created a flickr account that is only ebay and C/L pictures. So if someone wants to see everything I have for sale, great. Flickr lets you open as many free accounts as you would like, as far as I know. I have several accounts, and have not run against a limit yet.

The image URL in that example is everything before the last slash and only Ebaysale003a.jpg afterwards (get rid of the ?action=view¤t= garbage and you will be set, in other words)

Thanks for the great responses. I'm going to try to work through photobucket, but if I can't fix it, I'll just open another account with either flickr or opera.com. Thanx again.
