BF CVers are a terrible influence...

May 25, 2010: I owned no bikes.

June 01, 2010: I buy 2009 GMC Denali in order to stop driving. The fiance deals with one bike sitting in our tiny apartment.

July 18, 2010: Well, see for yourself what you've done to me!

I'm highly susceptible to obsessions...and bicycling was already an obsession...so I would like to formally blame BF for exacerbating my problem. This, I sense, is only the beginning...

Bikes: See my signature

Is the fiance still around?

I know what you mean - in July 2008 I had one bike (I've since sold that one). I now have 10 C&V bikes and ride 6 of them, with two that are perfectly functional (but wall art) and 2 projects.

Pikers. I've finally got the garage set up to hold 11 bikes hanging on the wall, and my mountain bike on the floor next to the garage door. That's my usual ride down the driveway to pick up the paper/mail, so it's got to be ready for an immediate grab. I've just added a couple of hooks in the shop for temporary storage for the bikes that are in process or scheduled for Craigslist. Newly acquired bikes are tossed in the wife's garden shed just to keep them out of the weather until I decide where they're going to be fixed or go to parts.

You don't start worry about obsessiveness until you're at least at this point - and I'll put the lower limit at 15 minimum. No complaints from the wife, by the way.

Bikes: I used to have many. And I Will again.

Hi deadprez012! (all of us in an AA style welcome)

That's a very nice Diamondback road bike you got there. IMHO, it's way above the Xmart Denali. I considered one for my stepson, but changed my mind. The handlebar config is rather DANGEROUS. You might consider reselling it. I also notice the seat posts are kinda high. Do check that you are picking up the correct size for your body.

Yeah, it's a slippery slope OCDing on bikes. I think we passed the 15 bikes mark! No complaints yet from my wife either....yet. LOL!
One way I noticed some here deal with it is to keep flipping the bikes and maintain a set number of keepers. Adopt this early.

She didn't complain back when I had ten motorcycles, either (I'm down to four and a scooter now). Better yet, given her health and the time I've got to spend taking care of her, she's fighting me on the possibility that I might be selling some of those motorcycles. Patti's attitude is that as long as the house is paid, there's food on the table, and the heat is running, I'm free to do whatever I want with what's left of my money. And yes, that red car in the foreground is a Porsche. Also bought with her blessing.

Why do you think I married her?

You got yourself a sensible woman, therefore, you're a lucky SOB.

My wife doesn't mind the bikes, sportscar resto, and the sportbike. I don't mind her countless number of shoes, clothes, interior decor.

I have a cool gal too.

Bikes: Giant Excursion, Raleigh Sports, Raleigh R.S.W. Compact, Motobecane? and about 20 more! OMG

I have good one too...she keeps count of my bikes for me (30+ BTW)

We just had a weekend discussion on how to consolidate a series of collections we have, plus gain some shop space.

End result is I am pricing up a 30x60 steel building Looking good so far!

Been there...done that. And she actually didn't have too much to say about it--it was after dinner, and I'm up way too early in the morning for her to witness most long-term damage

@WNG: The Diamondback is sized for a person a step down from me, but the seat post height makes the leg extension exactly what I need (plus my upper body really likes the "shortness" of the reach) considerably better even before the min insert height. It was just such a sweet deal that I couldn't walk away! Regarding the Denali, after putting real saddle time on a proper bike...that thing will never be ridden again. If I don't get it sold by winter, it may be used because it's so heavy that it could afford a little extra traction and forces me to ride a bit slower; otherwise, it is CL fodder for any unfortunate soul.

I don't have a garage...so if I had that many bikes, neither she nor I would be able to sleep in this apartment!

Just to clarify, she is "around" in the long-term sense, but she's currently gone for 5 weeks to visit family overseas, and took the baby girl with her. So it's just me, work, and my tools for a month !

My wife is taking off with the kids on a variety of trips over the next month and I'm house sitting all the critters - both living and mechanical. This is when I get to spend all the time I want wrenching and cleaning bikes and parts - with no interruptions. It will be enjoyable to say the least.

In my case, the tradeoff was a house I really didn't want to buy (Patti's a house junkie). This meant forgetting retirement at age 49 (I was three months into it), going back into the rat race, and supporting her when she couldn't come up with her half of the mortgage payments. I suppose it's a fair trade, now that the house is paid off.

The real appreciation of the woman? She didn't freak the night I came home minus my motorcycle club colors, telling her, "I'm out of the club. I've got the South Carolina Hell's Angels pissed off at me - and the club." Now, THAT'S a woman.

Bikes: 1978 Raleigh Team Record, 1979 Motobecane Mirage, 1985 Gitane Professional

I know how you feel, Fall of 2008 I had two bikes, a 1999ish Mongoose MTB from walmart that I bought new in the 8th grade, and a 79 Moto Mirage. Now I have 5 bikes and a frameset that I just acquired waiting to be built up.

I still have the Moto which is now my fixie commuter and the Mongoose is converted to SS and used for Polo.
