197X Garlatti conversion [PIC INTENSIVE]
This is still a work in progress.
This bike was originally set up as a low end, bike boom racer, imported from Italy, to north america (montréal, québec) by an italian shop (coppi) which was kind of legendary but is now closed.
it was a surprising mish mash of parts : campagnolo valentino extra gears, universal mod 61 centerpull brakes (i use them on other bikes now!), ofmega headset (still on and the locknut is even aluminum...!), cottered cranks (good riddance), 3ttt alu stem & handlebar (mod grand prix, both still on there), pedals had been replaced already, steel chrome rimes (gone !), plastic saddle, steel seatpost, etc.
some nutcase is trying to sell a bad green one on ebay :
i still need to switch to a singlespeed freewheel (maybe tomorrow, if the mavic hub is made so that respacing is possible....) that will make the bike even lighter (still haven't had the chance to put it on a scale !)
have a khe tanga light 250g 1-speed chain set up
the rear triangle is bent but I think it's not much of a problem
the front wheel is not the one I want... i have a old tubular wolber waiting to have its new tire glued on
also need to weld a crack in my pedal (any tips ?)
new specs include :
-zeus crank, 45t drilly orig. ring, campagnolo croce d'aune BB
- original ofmega hs, 3ttt stem & handles
- new sakae alu fork donated by a member of bikeforums (props !!!)
- campagnolo track pedals-mavic gp4, wolber as40 titane chrome rims both on mavic sealed hubs, vittoria olimpionico/clément super condor (both thai) tubs
- campagnolo nuovo gran sport front brake, satin finish, with generic alu 3-finger MTB lever
- campagnolo nuovo record 26.4 seatpost... (what a b**** to set up !!!)

yeah...
i have no problem braking but I reckon it's kind of short (= thanks for reminding me tho
i want to get my hands on some nice color cable, like yellow or dark pink or something.
i'd be interested in seeing pictures... i've seen lots of ugly colors (my mom was cool enough to pick the metallic gray in her 20es !)
but black must have looked reaaaal good.
another pretty one (later ives corsa model) can be seen on velospace...

I had the only black Garlatti I've ever seen.

I bought an old Garlatti at a garage sale a few years ago. I'm trying to rebuild it now. Most of the parts are original. Does anyone know the original seatpost / seatpost size?

mine was 26.4... I got a Campagnolo Nuovo Record

For the update : I am getting carbon forks for the garlatti and i am trying to find a nice 130/135/140 stem
I also found Record headtube races which I will fit in soon.
i am looking to part a 3ttt mod grand prix dropbar and a matching 3ttt alu stem (110?)

Thanks for the quick response. That is what I thought the size was, but I tried the seat post of my old Baracuda mountain bike (it is 26.4) and it seemed to tight. I guess I will keep my eye out for one on Ebay and such.

I love mish mash bikes, vélos méli-mélo, beat bikes, "ruined" bikes, frankenbikes, whatchacallit & outrageous bikes. Better than original or restauration bikes and truly unique.

Maybe your right. Mine has the model name on the top tube (I think). Unfortunately most of it has been worn off and it is completely illegible (it might just say Garlatti). I guess I should take a trip to my local bike shop and hope they have a sizing rod.

My initial thought when reading the name "Garlatti" was Brad Pitt's character's fake Italian name (Gorlami) in "Inglorious Basterds".
