Detailing Tape

Sorry if this is the wrong forum, but I figured there might be some restorers on here.

I'm interested in some labels/tape to use for detailing frames and forks. I'm hoping to find white tape with black stripes or similar to use around forks where the paint and chrome transition. My '74 Schwinn Letour has this.

Possibly also for the downtube on another bike I'm working on.

Any suggestions on stuff I can find locally at craft stores or auto parts stores?

thanks!

Autobody supply stores carry a large variety of pinstriping tapes.

The trick is to apply it without stretching it.

Hobby shops have color pin stripes in small sizes, I just used some on my 1980 Letour.

This is the pin stripes I like to use, they hold up very well. "Great Planes" kwik stripe.

This is an excellent, easy and inexpensive way to make the paint to chrome transition. I pick mine up at a local Canadian Tire Dept store.

Have a peek at my Legnano. I usually dab a bit of clear coat, at the joint and let-er-go. If it fails down the road, pardon the pun, just apply new tape and let-er-go.

Bikes: one of each

Is it like what my 74 Schwinn had, a 2 white stripes divided by one black one? I was thinking of laying down a piece of fat white tape and putting a piece of skinny black over the top.

Yep, that is what it looks like, white with black in the center. For now I took a black sharpie and touched up the black and it looks great, but for the long run I want to do it in nicer fashion. That is for the Schwinn Le Tour. Mine is also a '74 and I love it! It is opaque blue and the paint is in great shape and the chrome is nearly perfect. It also came with a Brooks B-15 saddle that was broken in perfectly for me. Whoo hoo!
