Well are there someone intrested putting them in their sweet bianchi :) it's interesting that my bike isn't x4 and somehow it has this crankset

MercPilot 03-30-12 08:40 AM

Hey,
Newbie to the forum but have been lurking for awhile. Since this thread is still active 8 years after the first post, I'm hoping you guys can help me ID my new to me Bianchi. I purchased it from a friend last summer and he told me that he picked it up cheap from Goodwill and that it was either purple, or had purple-ish graphics before he spray bombed it green. I'm kind of newbie when it comes to vintage bikes and equipment. I'll list the components as best I can. It's decked out with mostly Suntour components. Thanks in advance!
Serial# on BB is 80520632
SR Laprade seatpost
Sakae 170 Cranks
Suntour front and rear derailleur (rear says Suntour 3040 Accushift)
Suntour Accushift downtube shiffters
MKS AR-8 pedals
Rims are Araya 7000 Japan
Hubs have KK with sort of a crown on it and the front hub has MAS on it in addition to KK...also the front hub has 07 and 87 stamped on it and the rear has 47 and 87 (maybe 87 is the year?)
Front large chainring is a 52T SR 307
Seat is black plastic padded Viscount with Bianchi in white letters on the back

Any help in identifying the Model and year would be really appreciated!

Does your frame have an X-4 stamped on the brake bridge? Or a headbadge rolled into the head tube?

Bianchigirll 03-30-12 04:45 PM

Hi MercPilot welcome to the forums. Your pics are not much help in identifying the bike and actually with the repaint there is very little chance of IDing it unless T-Mar can pin it down.

Does your friend have any pre paint pics? Do the dropouts or fork ends have Bianchi stamped on them?

I suspect this may be something like a Strada from '87/8 but that is a close as I can guess for now.

MercPilot 03-30-12 08:27 PM

I did not see any stamping on the dropouts or the fork ends, but I'll look closer and see what I see. Previous to my first post, i noticed that when looking through pics of vintage Bianchis on this site and others, the late 80's Strada like you mentioned always catches my eye as looking similar to mine. I've tried to look for unmolested Stradas to see what they were originally spec'd with. Unfortunately no before pics. Thanks for the help!

It has only Bianchi stamped on brake bridge, there is nothing referring to x-4 (or anything else). The bike is repainted so there are no decals either. I will rebuild the bike to its original state after summer :)

hey there!

so my brother has a celeste bianchi campione d'italia (on TT) with 'exclusive' and 'superset' written on it. made in italy

the serial number is A402326

i guess my question is for the year, if you know if the rear spacing is 130 or 126, and if there's any funky threading (read: italian) that we have to deal with as we're looking to update the components on it.
also, i guess just for fun, any knowledge of the tubing used? edit: did they ever use dedacci?

edit2: he told me it also says campione del mondo on the downtube..

many thanks!
sean

Do you have any pics? Other than Exclusive and SuperSet is threre any indication of the type of tubing? Oria? Reynolds?

What components are on the bike? Are the dropouts horizontan or Vertical. Vertical dropouts would indicate a post '91ish frame.

I suspect this is a Post '87 bike but that wouldn't rule out a Italian BB.

seanile 04-02-12 11:56 AM

just got some pics from him.

He read off what sounded like "Dedacci" but he said there was no d in the front...idk, maybe he's blind. or it was scratched off. said it was double butted. maybe dedalo?

it's got pearl-silver writing, campy hubs to ambrosio rims, campy mirage.

after looking through bikepedia i'm going to say '95 because of the wheels.

edit: upon looking at the sticker in the photo, it's dedacci tubing, which would make it 97, but the wheels don't make sense then.

Bianchigirll 04-02-12 09:48 PM

Yes '95/7ish would be about right for that and I am certain the spacing would be 130 and US market Bianchis pretty much went all English BB shells in '88/90.

hi everybody! can someone tell me what model and year is this bianchi. s/n 759542.

Bianchigirll 04-03-12 02:32 PM

Not from those pics. Judging from the style of the tubing decal and the tubing type, and the nutted rear brake make me think it is a early to mid '80s Special or some similar lower end model. any better pics? what components are on it?

It also looks to me like the downtube decal was replaced at some point with an incorrect one.

sirlinden 04-04-12 12:46 AM

.

it was only frame when i found it in metal garbage. i think the decal is original there glue sings of other decals on every tubes and all fits on the downtube bianchi logo. ill take more pictures today.

Bianchigirll 04-04-12 07:26 AM

Only a frame? so you put the components on it? the brakes are not recessed? I still think it is something like a mid '80s Special or Sport SS maybe it is very hard to tell.

I Think I'll add my serial numbers to the mix. First my wife's 84 Japanese Bianchi LS323063, And then my Italian celeste Bianchi unknown year believed to be an 87, s/n 9510 on the crank side and 6.R on the other side. Any help in identifying my bike wiould be appreciated

himmiesutton 05-12-12 11:54 AM

Hello all, been a while since I posted but I need help. Bought this Bianchi frame thinking it was 59cm (my size) but it measures out more like a 57. I could sure use some expert Bianchi help to decide if I should build it out and what would be more appropriate. I have either a Campy SR gruppo or a Dura Ace EX group sitting around I could go with.

Other questions: does the “59” stamped on the BB mean it is a 59 cm? Is the “B.089” a serial number and any idea what year or model this might represent? And what about this color? It looks like sort of a taupe’y, grey metal flake. Has anyone ever seen anything like this before? Is it a real Bianchi? What is “Bianchi Special Columbus” tubing?

The frame came with a mounted Campy headset & seat binder bolt and weighs 3060gm. with those mounted.

Thanks in advance for any help! Regards, Jim

I’ll try to include pictures in the post but if that does not work, you can see pics at this link:

Nice Bianchi, is it still in the Fatherland? As to the size Bianchis were measure center to top of the headtube had it continued through the seatlug.

Bianchi Special tubing was introduced here in the states in '85 and was just what the ladel says a tubing made Special for Bianchi. Talking to one of the other knowledgable forum members we suspect it is simple some mix of SL Alle in a TreTube configuration for Bianchis famous SuperSet frame design.

again here in the states that color looks alot like a Stelvio and was the bottom line Italian bike that year with a mix of Ofmega and Campi (980 I believe) parts. however the same frame was shared across several models in those years.

hope this helps

If you post some pics perhaps we can figure out the models.

himmiesutton 05-12-12 02:35 PM

Thanks Bianchigirll, that's very helpful! The bike's not in the Fatherland (I'm in British Columbia and the bike came to me from Texas). Wish I had known about the sizing, may have to try and resell the frame locally. Cheers, Jim

I wasn't aware of this thread until doing a Google search for a serial number database. I've had my own thread asking this question, but would have asked here had I known this thread existed. Judging by the decals, I'm guessing between 1982-1986ish, but my serial number format doesn't match others I've seen here.

Others I've seen are in the format of [letter][number][number][number][number][number], where mine is [number][letter][number][number][number][number] as you can see in the pics below.

Serial number 2M1354 or maybe 2-M1354, since there is something between "2" and "M", maybe it's a period?
