Bianchi TSX- what year?

5 Attachment(s)
Hello. This is an amazing thread- very much appreciate all the inputs, especially from T-mar and Bianchigirll. I am in Auckland, New Zealand and am quite certain the two Bianchi's I am trying to get information on were originally puchased here. I have acquired a couple celeste Bianchi's over the past few months dating back to the late 80's/early 90's: an Axis that I think is a 1989 model, and a TSX that I haven't a clue (maybe 1993 or 94?).

This post is regarding the TSX. serial number is very difficult to read- on the underside of the BB, I suspect it is 58D59S0 (the 's' and last '0' are really hard to make out, but quite confident on the other numbers. It has an 8-speed Campagnolo 'Mirage' groupset (with a Veloce FD) and Campagnolo 'Mexico' wheels that could have been added after the frame was purchased- not sure as I have seen some variation on TSX groupsets. Also has the chrome front forks and partial chromed chain stays. I am in the process of upgrading the groupset to a 10-speed Campagnolo Record CT with Campagnolo Nucleon wheel for my fast rider. Appreciate ANY feedback on year this model was manufactured. THANKS!

As a follow up, here is the Bianchi Axis. As mentioned on my post above (#551), I suspect it is a 1989 model, but could be an 88? Purchased this one off an online auction from someone who had not riden it in years. Even the bar tape is OEM, I suspect. It is very good nick. After complete disassembly (off with the reflectors!) and a thorough cleanup, she is looking SHARP. I always loved the Bianchi's from the 80's. This cross bike is no lightweight at 12.4kgs but I have TSX for that kind of riding. The Axis will receive a rear rack and guards to serve as my commuter and tour rider; possibly some light off road use too.

Serial number located on the front face of the BB is 9B18187. The frame is non-Columbus "Double Butted Tange Chrome Moly" with the 'B' in the circle. Groupset is SunTour XCD 6000 with Diacompe cantilever brakes, Sakae handlebar and Araya 7000 wheels. Suspect either Taiwan or Japanese manufacture. THANKS again for any input on this beast! Hi Kiwi welcome to the forums (belatedly on my part). Great looking Bianchis!

Here in the states TSx ran from around '92ish through I think '96ish and usually came a frame with different 'kits' available most years. So the best way to determine the year may be check the date codes of some of the components.

http://www.bikeforums.net/attachment...9&d=1370490897

Here in the states the Axis wasn't introduced until '89 but I don't know about other markets. I got a similar condition Equinox a few years ago but paid a bit more for it.

http://www.bikeforums.net/attachment...5&d=1370491885

Unfortunately for Bianchi the Axis and Equinox were a bit heavy for competitors right at the time when 'cross was really gaining some steam here in the states. They make great do anything bikes though.

T-Mar 06-07-13 07:55 AM

The Axis should be a 1989 but I'm not sure about the TSX frame.

Dixie Kiwi 06-07-13 11:04 AM

Thanks for the replies, Bianchigirlll and T-Mar. Very much appreciated. The TSX is now completely stripped down to the frame for the Record CT groupset swap out. I will treat the interoir rust (minimal) with Evaporust and sealed with Lanox this weekend, and the exterior will get a good clean and polish. I am getting the front forks stripped and rechromed. Stems and bars will be new Deda stock with a celeste wrap on the bars. Weight expected to be under 10kgs. I will post updated pix when project is complete- should be a stunner! Thanks again

Hey everyone, I'm looking for a bike and came across this Bianchi. The listing says it has Exclusive Superset 2. Any ideas on the year and model of this/whether it's worth the buy?http://bikeforums.net/attachment.php...hmentid=322033

Sorry about the sloppiness, still getting used to this forum. Also I have not been able to get serial numbers but will try very shortly.

Bianchigirll 06-08-13 07:08 PM

It looks like a later '90s Eros with a Mirage group.

Thanks a lot Bianchigirl. Ended up grabbing it for $150, in New York City nonetheless!

Bianchigirll 06-10-13 07:19 PM

Congrats! sounds like a good deal. I hope we get to see some better pics and more info about it.

astrein 06-11-13 11:10 AM

It's got a couple of paint chips but nothing big! Which thread would I post more pictures to?

This bike, I'm trying to definitively identify it, the consensus thus far seems to be a 1988 Campione D'Italia, but the bottom bracket seems to indicate 1987? The decals and frame could be from different years?

Hi all,

I'm new to this forum but have been getting increasingly into cycling over the past few years. I picked up a frankenbianchi off cl a couple weeks ago and was curious if any of you could help id the frame. I've checked the catalogs online to no avail, and Dixie Kiwi's Axis a few posts back is the closest decal set I've seen to it. The serial is IS761872, and though I don't think it will help id it, it's got a shimano/exage groupset circa early-mid 90's. Any help is appreciated, thanks!

Hi er1k welcome to the forums and to getting back into cycling. Looks like this onld gal could use a little TLC but not a bad bike for running around the city though.

This is actually an easy one, the Mint Celeste paint, decal style and the Exage Sport group all point to a '88 Sport SX. I can't remember if these were Japanese or Tiawanese built but with the serial number T-Mar can likely tell that plus what factory and who welded the frame :p.

Bianchigirll 06-19-13 10:57 AM

Can you post some pics of the whole bike? If that is a Formula Two frame it is very possible it was built in '87 but not used until '88.

+1, it's a 1988 Bianchi Sport SX. It's definitely a Japanese model, built in September 1987.

As stated in the other thread, despite the relatively early 1987 serial number, this is a 1988, Canadian market, Bianchi Campione d'Italia. The 1987 model used a totally different decal style and component mix. I suspect that the frame had some defect and got caught up in the rework cycle, which delayed it's getting decaled and built up until after the start of the 1988 production run. It's atypical, but it does happen.

I'm here at Bianchigirll's suggestion to perhaps ID this bike.

It was purchased new in Canada, and made in Italy. I'm sure that it came originally equipped with 105. The guy I bought it from first said it was an 86 Brava, but it had that 86-87 sticker, so it clearly wasn't an 86. So he probably knows nothing. Here's some detail pics.

In a practical sense, it doesn't matter if I can ID it or not--I still plan on using it for a nice project, build my own wheels for it, and put Campy on it. But it would be nice to know.

Everything adds up to a 1988 Brava.

Well, there's no way you could know. I could've also been from Hamilton, Bermuda. (Too bad I'm not, actually.)

I should've mentioned up front that the bike was originally bought new in Canada. For whatever weird reason, they do market differently here: different colors and models and such.

Anyway, thanks for the help.

Actually, you did menion in your previous post that the bicycle was bought new in Canada. That's how I knew you were from steel town. However, that ain't no Tiger-Cat or Bulldog in your avatar.

Eros, but what year?

2 Attachment(s)
Hello,

Just curious to find out what year this Bianchi Eros dates from.

http://bikeforums.net/attachment.php...hmentid=337232

There are two numbers stamped on the bottom bracket: 990 on one side, and A006393 on the other side.

Pretty much every component matches the 1995 parts shown on the webpage:

http://www.bikepedia.com/quickbike/B...e#.Uh1btXAo7Z4

except for the rims. I had not previously heard of FIR wheels, has anyone else used them?

Thanks! Happy Riding!
