I've got another celeste-colored Bianchi bike. It has a serial number format a little like felix's 7G 510. It might be a 1987 bike then...

Is that enough to identify the model?

I have recently got into road biking (been mtb for a few years) so I bought this Bianchi as a fix up project.
I was unable to find any similar pictures in this thread, at least to my untrained eye. Possibly has something to do with the fact that I am from Canada.
Based on what I have read and seen, it seems to be on the lower end.

I too am on the intrepid search to find out the birth year of my Celeste green Bianchi! Serial number is G-23453. I believe it to be 68 - 72 all Campy.
I also have a Classico (Japan) serial number E 8531601 all Shimano.

Just acquired a Bianchi. Below is the following data and pics:

Celeste color, 56cm, SN# M8 9046, Made in Italy decal, Columbus tubing, Formula Two tubing, Formula fork, Suntour front and rear derailleur, Modolo brakes, Stronglight crank, Bianchi front fork dropouts, nothing on rear dropouts, Ofmega headset, handlebars appear to be original, but the stem is black with no marking? Bike is VERY ROUGH with plenty of rust. Seat tube, seat, shifting levers have all been replaced with junk.

I am assuming entry level or at least, lower level model. I assume after reading much of this thread, 1988 production

I would love to know the right way to fix it up. I would assume sand or grind away rust, but then do I prime, find some Celeste touch-up paint? Or would I be better to remove all decals, repaint entirely, and find replacement decals?

I am not worried about having it mint, but I would like to be able to ride. Should I buy new components or are these sufficient for commuting and moderate road riding?

What would be the best source for replacement shifting levers, seat tube and seat, stem?

Oh that poor Bianchi! That is an '88 Campione de italia and yes it ewas Bianchi's least expensive 'Italian" model, but they did go with Suntour to have an index drive train.

Becareful removing the cranks. I recommend using a little penetrating spray after you remove the bolts. the use a good crank puller and be sure it is well seated before removing the crank.

If you have the space a bath in Oxecillic Acid (not spelled right) will fromove the rust inside and out. A few better overall pics will help to determine but you may be able to save the paint and just touch up.

The main decals for this year, the Bianchi and the Formula 2 are available on the 'bay by a guy from Australia.

Do you have a recommendation/source for replacement parts - shifting levers, seat tube and seat, stem?

Also, would you recommend upgrading the derailleurs, brakes, etc. or do you believe the existing components are sufficient? I just don't know the quality of suntour and modolo components.

Other than replacing the brake levers, mostly out of personal preference, and the fact the a nice tektro levers will be about the same or less than new Modolo hoods, that is all I would replace unless some is broken or so dirty and rusty it can't be cleaned.

consumables like cables and housing, tires and tubes, a chain. ad of course bar tape certainly should be replaced. I would recommend your local bike shop (LBS) unless you can't find what you want there. There tonnes of great suppliers on the net, I like Ebikestop, and then there is Ben's out of Milwaukee but he can be pricy. ebay is a great place too.

I have been told that the Dia Compe 204 hoods will fit on the Modolo levers. Velo Orange has them, and I have 2 pairs on order, due in next week. I will try them on my Modolos, I'm just not sure when.

Which number on my new 2014 Imola is the serial number?

I have a 1970's bianchi in near perfect condition with original parts (or so I believe). The head tube has the frame number 8E11432 and a sticker underneath says 00 4.60. I would love to post some photos but have no idea how to attach the jpegs when it wants a URL (not techy)

Hi Bianchigirl, T Mar and fellow forum members, greetings from South Africa.

Please you assist me identify the model, year of manufacture and steel type used for my frame.

Unfortunately the frame was obtained in this stripped down condition and I don't have any idea as to the paint work, decals, etc. The frame appears to have been painted Celeste and was not nickel plated like my Super Leggera.

Also, can you advise the place of manufacture, i.e. Italy, Japan

The frame number is 2888 on right of BB and 9 . G on the left with Bianchi in the middle. Similar to the BB on page 23.

It has 27mm seat post and Gipiemme rear dropouts. Forks dropouts are not stamped. Has 36 x 24T BB. Other distinguishing items are three top tube cable guides, bottle cage mounts on down and seat tube. Rear gear cable guide is on the top of the stay.

The frame size is 53cm (seat tube 52cm centre to centre, top tube length 53cm). I know it must be one of Bianchi cheaper frames but I intend to restore it close to its original state.

Hello Loose cog, welcome to the forums. I believe T Mar has, unfortunately, retired from the forums, his knowledge is sorely missed.

Is the seat post 27 or 27.2? 27 would be interesting and could point to a full SP frame rather than a SL or SL/SP mix. Is there any markings on the fork crown? Unfortunately since the paint and decals have been removed from this there is no way to know for certain just what it is.

Owing to the pump peg and the brazeon for the front derailleur I would suspect this dates to somewhere around '86-89ish. But the fork crown lacking a Bianchi eagle would make it earlier maybe '85-86. I do belive the tab for the front derailleur does mark this as a higher end frame, a lot of the later '80s frames, even the good ones, had the Gipiemme dropouts.

Should be a fun project. BTW that chair and hall table are beautiful.

There is no marking on the crown fork as seen in this photo. Here is also a clearer picture of the braze on for the FD. The frame is quite heavy. The stem and seat post are seized as someone tried to sandblast the frame without removing the headset, stem, bars and seat post. I don't know what they were thinking? I will weigh it once I get the rest of the stem and seat post out of the frame. The seat post has been measured at the last bit closest to the lug. My vernier is old and has had a few bumps in its life. I have an old Campy 27 seat post which I will see if it fits better than a 27.2

Thank you for the comments on the chair and hall table. They are part of a Stinkwood dining room set from the 1920's. Stinkwood is were heavy similar to Mahogany or Leadwood. Very scarce, especially in larger quantities. I will take a photo for you of the set.

I was hoping it had a print Bianchi on the crown. This probably dates to the earlier mentioned time period but but finding anything more specific is highly doubtful unless someone can get the info via the serial number.

The stem are seat post were likely stuck before the sandblasting. Do a search on here for stuck seatpost and you'll find a scores of info on methods to try and remove it.

[MENTION=369316]Jayrev67[/MENTION] welcome to the forums. Nice looking Bianchi. I've never seen a sticker like that yellow one must be a build or batch tag. You say it has Ishiwata tubing and Bianchi dropouts? Any idea on the seatpost and bottom bracket shell? What are the brakes?

If it wasn't for the fork crown I would say this started life as a '89 Brava w/ 105 GPX but that would have a unicrown fork.
