My new Faggin , soon to be all chrome!

Here is my new bike.
It's a Faggin and the paint was peeling off when i received it and so after discovering it is all chrome i have started to strip all the paint off.
It has Simplex retrofriction shifters and Stronglight 107 triple cranks and Front Campy derailleur. Everything else is shimano 600.

Here are some shots.

Just be aware that the chome under the paint is often not as pretty as chrome that it meant to be exposed. Manufacturers typically do not waste the time to highly the polish the tubes, if they are to covered by paint after chroming.

I've got a Pinarello with the same issue - same color almost. How are you removing the paint? My chrome under the paint does not look that great - yours looks better in the pics. How are you going to protect the chrome when you are done? I'd love to see the finished product.

It'd be kind of cool just to leave it sort of "patchy" that way it has an interesting look when you're riding by- almost like an iridescent thing like it's changing from shiny blue to shiny shine.

goooood looking bike! The Mavic 500 series are great hubs. Got a pair when with the last bike I bought. Thought I would get another set for a clincher build up but price is too high compared to vintage Campy high flange hubs sitting on my shelf!

Note what the rear axle looks like without the FW:

I haven't seen one before but it is a chain guide thingy! To protect the chainstay from the chain.
Maybe because it has a granny ring?

The forks and 3/4 of the chainstay were exposed Chrome as standard and the frame looks exactly the same and very polished.

The frame started peeling in transit when it was being sent and most of it has been easy to scrape off with my finger nails. For the bits the paint that is still stuck well i have taken advice from someone else who stripped their Faggin and i have been using a razor blade with good results and no scratches.

I have the same set as yours with the black rims as well and i have just received new bearings to fit into them. The Mavic set i have on my Faggin are so silky smooth it is unbelievable . You said the price is high? they are pretty cheap over hear and i expect you can find a pair easy here for 40 - 60 Euros with tyres.

Looks like you did a great job with the chrome.
But no decals? You do realize that a couple years from now someone will be posting a "please ID this bike" here, don't you?

You can safely remove paint from chrome with paint stripper. It has no effect whatsoever on the chrrome.

Chrome doesn't need protection. It is protection for the steel. Just wax it.

It's no problem as it has Faggin engraved in all different places on the frame and forks as standard.

I went through hell trying to decide if I'd do the same to my all-chromed Simplon. I decided to retain the paint then repaired the chips etc. Now that I see yours, I'm wondering — SIGH! Very nice!

I've never seen a stripped-chrome bike that has impressed me in person.

No crit, Kurt. Just wondering why. Maybe your opinion will justify my decision. I was virtually certain that I could strip the paint without scratching the chrome. But the bike is rare and I was trying to preserve some of its original appearance (albeit my ruination of some decals that I mean to partly restore).
