I do hope he is OK. the images I have seen on V and the 'net, even with this slower then dialup connection are just awful!

as a side note is anyone in the east having issues with the flooding I have been hearing about?

My thoughts are with Lenton and his family.

Was his bike his primary mode of transportation? What brought him to Japan? Anyone know what kind of work he was in?

If he lost his bike I'll send him a complete ride....

How about if everyone sends him a PM? Can't hurt. He is a good guy, could use the boost.

I believe he taught English to high-schoolers.

Just hours before the Tsunami struck, Lenton58 sent me an email regarding a wish list for some parts he needed. That single note, brought me closer to the horrors of the situation, that must prevail in Japan, and other impacted areas.

The evening before the Tsunami, I was talking with another fellow, this time in Osaka, who had made a very generous offer on one of my favorite bicycles. I did accept but, needless to say, have heard nothing yet.

My thoughts, hopes and best wishes are with all of those who have weathered Mother Nature's recent storm.

The quake struck at about 2:45pm local, good chance he was in school, Sendai had about 13 minutes warning. There was about a one minute warning of the quake, maybe the Tsunami warning sirens went on concurrently? They do take their warnings seriously.

This is a before and after picture of Sendai, heavily damaged by the initial earthquake and then devastated by the tsunami. They said on the news today that there was just 30 minutes between the two. I have to say, I fear the worst.

Google has launched a "person finder" for people caught up in the crisis in Japan, perhaps someone with his personal information can use this to get some more info.

These shots are set up differently with a sliding scale showing the before and after shots. It is a sobering view of the disaster.

What is really devastating about these events is that there is a real possibility of people never being seen again, no remains recovered, no closure. I certainly hope it isn't the case. Right now people there are probably fighting for just the basics, food, water, shelter.
Really feeling fortunate about my own life and family.

With that in mind: my local Japanese-American community is setting up a relief fund to aid the earthquake/tsunami survivors...there is likely one in your community, too.
I'm making a contribution in his name (or rather his "handle" Lenton58, since that's how I know him).
I hope it's something he can read about later, and not a memorial.

Last night CNN said about half the population of Sendai is unaccounted for. That said, I have a strong faith in human resiliency.

After a bit of investigating i found out Lenton58s name and searched on the tsunami people finder and it appears his best friend and sister have added a search for him and his family without any feedback yet.
I hope it is all because of lack of communication in that area!
