I can't even wrap my head around the disaster, and his presence in it makes it more personal. It's so meaningless, but I think I'm going to make a donation in his name and hope for the best.

When you get back Lenton58 please let us know what we can do to help. I made a contribution to the Red Cross, but if there is another fund you are associated with please let us know.

I used Red Cross as well...I always get afraid with charities, particularly in emergency situations, of how much the charity takes. I know Red Cross uses most of the dollars they get, other organizations? I don't know which give at what levels.

I heard from my friends in Tokyo. They were caught across town when the trains stopped running and had to shack up with relatives but they are unhurt. What a relief.

I had just found that a few minutes ago as well, but wasn't 100% sure if that was him. But that is definitely awesome to hear!

Wow, great news, hope he is well and also am praying for those dealing with the devastation.

Hope this isn't taken the wrong way but I'm also trying to use my upcoming cycling event to encourage people to give to emergency relief in Japan.
I used Mercy Corps last year for Haiti (did the 80 for Haiti charity ride) and set up a page with them this time.

Fundraising for emergency relief in Japan

Here or somewhere else, any gift you can give is important.

I'll be doing the ride on a modernized steel bike, and may do it on a complete vintage steel touring bike if iI an build it and get some practice rides in to get it feeling good.

If someone was to set up an account for donations I am sure Lenton could use all the help we could offer... or could do it myself.

I know that there are other relief funds but we should tale care of our own as much as we can.

Great idea Sixty Fiver. In addition, I too have a parts stash I would be willing to dig into to help get a bike going for him. I may even have a frame depending on what size he rides.

I am so relieved to hear he and his family are safe.

I think he has PayPal. Great idea, Tony, and getting him back riding.
We should find out what he needs. There are international flat rate boxes.
I'd be willing to go in on shipping for a full bike.

Anyone know what size he rides? He had a Vitus?

When I saw the figure was going to be over 10,000 I was worried. VERY relieved, and excellent idea on the account.
