Kronos question

New toy-a 90's Giant Kronos. I'm wondering what the threaded holes are for in the fork. Also on the steerer tube it says 27x22.2-I'm pretty sure a 27" wheel won't fit the fork/frame is 50cm. Begs the question of what does the 27 refer to? Anyone have one of these that can shed some light? Components say 95, but the frame is tig-weld on bikepedia as 96. Thanks for any info in advance

Why wouldn't a 27" wheel fit? Did you try one?

The holes in the fork are for a low-rider style front rack: https://www.biketiresdirect.com/produ...der-front-rack

27 x 22.2 on the fork probably means that the inside diameter of the steerer tube is 22.2mm (which is pretty standard) and the fork crown race seat is 27.0mm (which is the JIS standard).

Why'd they call it "Kronos" when it's obviously a touring bike?

That's what is confuseing me, designated as a 'sport'. I wouldn't think a 90's bike would come with 27's. Haven't tried one yet/have to find one first. I have it still apart, but I'll measure the wheelbase when assembled. Thanks for that link. Guess I should plug those holes.

It came with 700c wheels. I had one. It was an odd cross between a racing bike and a touring bike.

I found a slightly more recent model at a pawn shop a few years ago, but it was more of a standard road bike than yours. It had 700c wheels and brifters, a nice entry-level to mid-level machine.

If you want to plug the holes, bottle-cage bolts should do it, but I don't think you really need to. The drain holes at the fork tips should allow any water to escape.

Mocked up (old tubies) Pretty lay-back geometry; but only a 39" wheelbase. The color is real nice in the sun, the camera dosen't do it justice. It will be awhile until I amass the parts needed. Definately 700 wheels. Thanks for the input.
