Bikes: Two wheeled ones

Their Rod Stewart cover is one of the single greatest covers I've ever heard.

Why aren't the Guess Who in the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame????

I actually walked out of a Marshall Tucker Band concert. Not because the performance was bad, but because the singer's voice was shot. It was awful.

I'll get flamed for this one... but... I had front row tickets for a Journey show once. (actually they were opening for Def Leppard but I hate, hate Def Leppard). Journey came out on stage and rocked. No props, they just came out and played what they were supposed to play and did it incredibly well. This was pre-glee, pre-newest singer, and pre-everyone becoming obsessed with Don't Stop Believin'.

ZZ Top has done the same thing the two times I've seen them. I've heard of other people having bad experiences with their shows, but my two were great.

smart. I should be that smart and go edit my previous post

I'd love to see ZZ Top even if all their songs sound pretty much the same. There isn't much wrong with all your songs sounding the same when the sound in question is awesome.

I always seem to run into problems with seeing Cheap Trick...they're always the opening act to some band I really hate, like Def Leppard, and I never get to see them because I refuse to pay Def Leppard to see Cheap Trick.

I did that a couple of years ago...we paid to see Modest Mouse and The National, but REM gets all the money. We left 3 songs into Stipe's AWFUL set. We heard later we missed Eddie Vedder coming on stage. I mean missed in the sense of missing another car and avoiding a crash.

+1. And I'll take it a step further. If I discover someone likes Matchbox 20, I'll know right then and there that we could never become friends.

I almost left my wife when we were still dating and she told me Boyz 2 Men were one of her favorite bands. I've grown to accept the new jack swing a bit more over time.

I picked all of the music at our wedding, with wife compromises (tom can attest to how good the music was). There was this one song, I forget the band but it was called Let's Get Married. It was the single worst song I'd ever heard and I flatly refused to put it on the list. The DJ came over during the wedding and told me four people had requested it...it ended up getting played and I still hear it echoing in the caverns of my brain. Every time I see her friends, I remember that song and how much I hate it. I dislike this particular group of friends anyway, but that really helped seal the deal.

oooh wedding songs...

I've threatened to seriously injure anyone who tries to play Celebration at my wedding. I don't think people realize how serious I am about it.

Now Grand Funk's version of The Locomotion... hells yes, that will play. Nothing like 200 drunk people dancing in a line around a building.

I never understood why "Whiter Shade of Pale" is considered a wedding song....I like that song.

I've never heard of Matchbox 20 - does that mean we're BFF?

On the topic of bands that I don't "get", but were off the hook live - Tom Petty. Really. I've never been a big Tom Petty fan, but his shows are a whole different thing. If he played like that on his albums, I've have bought one or two.

ZZTop and the B-52's are swinging through this summer. You guys have got me thinking.......

OH...... I saw Foreigner. Was not expecting awesomeness out of them. Perhaps Jason Bonham drumming helped out.

Anyway - if I had done the big wedding thing, Luke and The Locomotives would have figured big on the play list. Big Man Mambo, Shed a Tear...

ol Jimmy should get some credit for doing more Heroin than most of his contemporaries put together and still being relatively coherent these days.

Best shows I've ever seen -

Man or Astro Man...? at a place in Tampa, forget the name.
Electric 6 at the Khyber.
Soft Boys reunion at TLA
They Might Be Giants at TLA
Drive By Truckers at TLA (yes, I love TLA)
Yo La Tengo at the The Trocadero
Steely Dan at Tweeter Center
Frank Black at World Cafe
Zevon and Joe Walsh at Valley Forge Music Fare
whoa, I forgot about VFMF.

I saw Yo La Tengo at the First Unitarian and at the end of the last song the lead dude ripped all of the strings off of his guitar. Very un-yo la tengo like.

now that I think about it I think it was a place called "Magic Mountain" although that name sounds all too coincidental for what was going on there.

OH, to add to that list of bands that suck that seem popular for some reason? You know, Matchbox 20 and Nickelback? I submit; Jimmy Buffet. BARF!

I had a gf about 10 years ago who asked me to go to a show and we broke up a week later. Coincidence? I think not.

THey used to hang out at Tyler Art School when it was in Ambler ALL OF THE TIME. They'd come...take people's beer, try to take their women and play video games.
