I have a suspicion that most of the "extra, unexpected" weight you are feeling from the bike is coming mostly from the components and not the Palletti frame. The C Record/Delta group is veary heavy compared to its contemporaries. The Delta brakeset alone is close to double the weight of a 440 SSC Mavic/Modolo sidepull set. The early Ergo shifter levers alone feel as heavy as a small pistols in my hand unmounted. Campy went all out and pursued form over weenie weights with the group. Maybe they thought the aero advantages of the new smooth edged designs were enough to offset the additional weights??

My thoughts exactly. Columbus EL is one of the lightests steels to build a frame out, and c-record is a beautiful pig made out aluminium
