dual thread hub

On a raleigh grand prix 10 speed the hub is steel and made in england. It has two sets of threads on the side opposite of the freewheel cassette. what is this for?

If the outer set of threads is reverse then its for a fixed cog and lockring

Some tandem hubs are threaded on the left side for a drum brake, but I don't know if steel examples are common.

The early to mid seventies Holdsworth Equipe came fitted with a similar hub, as seen here...

Bikes: one of each

Yeah, that's probably a Gazelle made Raleigh. The Dutch would put a fixed cog on the other side for winter riding.
Just one of the many nice details you'll find on a Gazelle GP.

Bikes: Several, mostly not name brands.

Fixed/fixed and fixed/free hubs were actually fairly common in post-war England:

The only marking on this hub is "Made in England."

Cool. That way when you mess up the threads on one side you can have another go at the other side!

I'm going to guess it's a Brampton large flange steel hub with 36 spokes.

+1 to it being a Brampton. I have an older Grand Prix and it has a Brampton 36h Fixed/Free hub. You should post pictures of the bike and hub if you can

its at a garage sale for 25 bucks in poor condition. I would get it if the hub were special enough. Didn't take pictures though. Doh!
