Bianchi Squadra Questions

Looking at the pics .... can someone tell me:

1. What are those black triangular things below the brake pad called and what's their purpose?

2. The brake pads are original and seem pretty hard. I'd like to replace them. Do I replace the assembly (pad, hex nut and holder) or can I just replace the pad? Recommendations as to pad type (i.e. Shimano, KoolStop, etc. welcome)

3. What is the purpose of that nub on the inside of the seat stay approximately 4 inches above the derailleur?

the things on the brake pads are wheel guides for faster wheel changes in a race. for replacement blocks I recomend removing the old ones and trimming the KoolStop campi size replacements to fit in the holders

the Campi blocks fit the size of the holder but just need to be trimmed a bit simce the holders are rounded on the front. they are more expensive but you could use the Campi Delta blocks since they are already round.

the nub on the seatstay is a chain hanger for when the wheel is off.

Bianchigirl,

First, Thank You for your reply. That chain hanger makes sense. This bike has lots of nice little touches.

Would you please go to the site below and identify the the brake pad refills you're recommending?

Thanks again,

Matt

these, but as I said you need to trim one end to make them round to fit the holder. there was a short period when Campi used a block lie this but it was rounded. I am not sure if the 'pre 1999' pads shown on the page are the correct ones.

these might be the ones I am thinking of, but they are a bit pricy compared to the square ones.
