Our fine crop of Chief Petty Officer Selectees the day they got the best news of their lives:

The one in the middle is my guy (assigned to us at NCTS; the others came from the Support Facility tenant commands) and is the senior Selectee. He's going to get a lot of extra love between now and September 16th ;)

Sixty Fiver: C'mon, don't be a tease - what's the story behind both the rear DOs breaking?

WhatWolf: Neat picture! I don't think I've seen that particular angle before :)

I don't think that's breakage. It's disassembly for some sort of modification project, such as an xtracycle kit.

Drillium Dude 08-07-13 09:30 AM

^ I see; I have been wracking my brain trying to figure out what the heck kind of accident would've caused that!

The drive side dropout had broken and both were getting replaced, I cut them thrice to split them as this makes removing them easier and safer.

The bike is a Miyata 1000 that belongs to my friend.

Thanks. I put on those cheap plastic chrome bar plugs in as a temporary measure until I got orange anodized ones, but now I kind of like them. So shiny! And there's a lot of silver on this bike.

Drillium Dude 08-07-13 11:29 AM

^ If you end up finding some orange-anodized plugs, please let me know the source; I'd love a pair for the Davidson!

Storm rolling in, last night while working at the St Pete Bike CoOp, Behind the St Pete Shuffleboard Club, Downtown (currently open Wednesday evenings 6-9). High winds, lots of rain and HEAVY lightening! Yes...it WAS still wet heading home...my Vittoria Zaffiro tires kept a good grip in the wet, except for a little on road stripes and crosswalks.

It rained a little last night.

Taughannock falls. Normally, at this time of year, there's just a trickle going over. Notsomuch this year.

I heard a farm here in Tompkins county got more than 4.5" last night alone.

As usual, an incredible attention to detail!

I won't even start digging out our slot car fotos DD......

The boys and I are somewhat "spoiled" around here.

Seen right around the corner from our delightful hotel in Prague.

Yours truly with the city in the background.

My first time there, but I would return on a moment's notice.

An absolute must visit.

Looking down Quimby Road (after riding up Mount Hamilton yet again), into Silicon Valley, or the Santa Clara Valley depending on your preference.

I believe they rode up the road during the last Tour De California.

Where's the pic of you in your Oakelys and Rapha jersey enjoying an $8 post ride latte?

yes. Quimby road has 18% switchbacks. Do a google search for more info, it gets mentioned a lot on the net.

BTW, i was riding this (this pic is from yesterday)

https://lh3.googleusercontent.com/-v...2009.11.31.jpg

which features a front DP caliper conversion. That kind of conversation where you use a rear caliper on the front, then put the nut inside of the fork steerer. This mod is OK for normal use but it made me nervous coming down a mountain. The caliper has just one contact point with the fork instead of two, and I was picturing it snapping off and going into the front wheel the entire ride down.

I can handle getting thrown from my bike onto the road and braking a collarbone, but I'm not sure I could recover from being thrown over a cliff off the side of a mountain. I'm going to change the brakes out.

I was wondering the same Piney, if such a set up would be safe. I had this issue with a fork not drilled for recessed nuts.

In the end I took it to a machine shop to drill the fork out, so the bike could handle my Merckxian powers.

Germany_chris, that's great, not enough punk references make it onto bikes, especially those for Milo! Really diggin' the bike, well done!

Our home is a creative one for sure, there is always music playing... mostly punk or jazz as I grew up in SoCal in the 70's. As you can see from The Descendents baby gear, she is 8 now, my daughter was destined to be a little sammie. That quote in your signature is one of my favorites, I loved that interview! The Clash are my lil' angel's favorite band but lately (thanks to Pandora) she has really been getting into The Misfits. Works out good for me, I get cool birthday gifts from her, like some Misfits shoelaces to go in the birthday riding shoes my wife bought me... my daughter and I quickly "decorated" them.
