Spent Easter on the 'Copper Coast' of South Australia with the family and close friends.
The wife's Ricardo mixte (made in Adelaide, SA) and my, thrown together at the last minute Miyata Valley Runner, on the beach at Port Hughes.
Sorry for the low-res pics

Now that we're back home, I'll have time to strip the Miyata down and build it the way I want.

That is pretty cool. I have one some where from 1940-something, I think 42. It is was made of steel because they need the copper for the war. At one point in the 90's I was trying to find a penny, nickel, dime and quarter for every year of the 1900s but as is so often the case I got distracted and didn't fin

Went for a little 20 miler last night around 10pm. I love when Los angeles dies down at night, it can seem so peaceful. Im actually removing the fork and putting back the original steel fork, I just feel like its overkill at this point and ruin the lines of the original tubing.

Can't see them but under the train tracks. Finally had time for another shake down on the old Olmo.

Still mixing cycling with hiking this spring:

https://c2.staticflickr.com/2/1602/2...bedb60a6_b.jpg

My third Evergreen Lookout hike and still haven't made the summit. This time I had snowshoes while my hiking partner did not. I actually thought he might make it all the way to the top (he thought so, too, and he's a climbing machine, I swear); alas, no.

Next time is a solo trip and I will see the world from the top of the ridge!

And while D.D. is playing in the snow I was busy coaching my daughter and her teammates with beautiful temps in the mid-70's F. Love watching her play.

http://bikeforums.net/attachment.php...hmentid=513955http://bikeforums.net/attachment.php...hmentid=513956I did a 40 mile ride this afternoon. Pretty nice out but not nearly the 80's we're headed for later in the week. :)

Finally got some nice quality, vintage rubber block pedals for the fair weather cruiser. Picked them up a month ago on a trip which took me by Brown Cycles in Grand Junction CO. Awesome shop and owner -- stop in if you ever go by.

Now just to find a nice nitto dirt drop to give me the last inch of rise I need even though it's a 60/61cm frame.

Brown's Cycles is awesome. They've built a few wheels for me, and the owner is the one that repaired and modified my Sports frame. One of these days, I'm going to take a maintenance class from them.

Owner dude is a hoot. We talked shop for probably 30 minutes -- I had tried to avoid going in by my SO insisted. He's got some insanely cool bikes in there, including a custom 1930s mechanically derailled belgium thingy that is just beautiful. He also let me test ride his entry for his OneBike competition: a 930 trek singletrack that had been cut and rewelded to accept 29er wheels, drop handlebars + weird extensions, and a quick-release fork that you could ride in either direction: one direction gave the bike a steep, roadish head angle -- spin it 180 and you've got a slack head angle for coming downhill. Nutty but it worked oddly well.

scozim, Deal4Fuji.

Girls softball. Our daughter played through college, primarily a catcher. I was her team's coach through 14u. I started wearing steel toed shoes, knee pads and cup to pitch BP or to warm up the pitcher. Girls were impressive athletically. After that she was recruited to play club (much better coaches than I). My new job was to provide a cooler of popsicles for girls and shorties for the coaches after hot practices.

It's a great game for girls, and I'm sure you both know how exciting the college world series can be. I had two to play school and travel ball, and the lefty pitcher above went on to play D3 college ball. My background was always in basketball, not much base or softball so I was always an assistant - primarily catching for the pitchers. The only thing I don't miss are some of those Feb / Mar games with the wind howling :)

I coached my boys in baseball for 8 years. Having a whole lot more fun with girls. This one is playing 12u and 14u travel ball this year and loving it. She wants to play in college and probably can if she keeps working. I've been told after 8th grade I won't need to coach her anymore. :)

Cursed - or charmed?

Last summer (July 15th, to be exact) I lost this pair of Ray-Bans while on a local hike to Eagle Lake. I retraced my steps and after a couple hours found them on the same day.

As discovered:

https://c2.staticflickr.com/2/1501/2...c39c73df_b.jpg

I then lost them again on March 5th of this year on a hike to Evergreen Mountain Lookout - a very steep and strenuous hike similar in altitude gain to the Eagle Lake hike. I went right back up the following day to try to find them - no dice. A couple weeks later I did the hike with a local pal of mine, but by that point I'd given up on ever finding them. Yesterday during our most recent hike back up again I turned to him to make a comment on something et voila:

https://c2.staticflickr.com/2/1698/2...db4222a2_b.jpg

I found them again - completely by accident. I'm still trying to get my head around this.

As an aside, I bought these in a San Antonio mall on the same day I smoked my last-ever cigarette: June 2, 2014.
