More importantly, if this had mudguards it would be hard to justify having another messy-day commuting bike built up fairly similarly (the Trek 620 commuter w/ mudguards, basket, rack and albatross bars is almost done.) Hey, I've almost got my wife convinced. |

I won't bore you today with more pics of bikes you've already seen. Instead, I'll show you the incredible views I saw last night on my ride to Indian Mounds Park. This one from the Lafayette Bridge; and thank you Mr. Pigeon for making a cameo appearance:
http://i1073.photobucket.com/albums/...pshubrgyun.png ...and this one from up on the bluffs at the park: http://i1073.photobucket.com/albums/...ps1pkip23x.png Finally, for some reason I felt compelled to shoot this house - a little slice of "The American Dream", I guess: http://i1073.photobucket.com/albums/...psew93bgzt.png Anyway, it was a great night for a ride. |
DQRider -- you're making me miss Minneapolis. Beautiful shots.
I'm not much of a photographer, but I did have a shake-down commute after I rebuilt my old-favorite into my everyday around down bike. I had it built as my C&V roadie, but it wasn't getting ridden as much as I like the bike. Plus I have another bike I'd like to build as my full C&V road bike. http://i.imgur.com/jsqQowY.jpg 1983 Trek 620 with 700c wheels I built, original rear rack, Soma mini front (great match for this vintage of bikes), beat up Wald basket, re-used cotton tape over Albatross bars, VO city levers from a forum member, etc etc. Still a few things to dial in like swapping out the 28s for 32s I have in the basement, but 95% there. |
Would love to show the hail storm we received around 2pm but pics won't load AGAIN !
size of marbles and covered the ground. Staying off the bike again today to give the back time to heal. |

Now there's a man after my own heart, as they say. I've been a Ferrari fan (tifosi? tifosa? One or the other.) going back what; thirty-some years now. Never owned one, but there's still time... |

One can barely see the Palisades from my vantage point across the Hudson at the Yonkers City Pier.

The Historic Festival at Lime Rock Park always has some stunning examples. I should have a pic of a 250 GTO that was there a couple years back. I'll post it up here later. |

Ha, same here...there's still time... I've loved them since attending an event at Lime Rock Park as a young kid - my memory of the car's details has blurred, but they had a single seater probably from sometime in the mid-60s sitting on the lawn that I was allowed to sit in. That did it. A dream car of mine is the 275 GTB/4 in that lovely silver color. Or a a 330 P4...

Anyhow, a few pics from the '14 Historic Festival. And one of the FSAE team at Michigan Int'l Speedway from a while back. (I designed and built the body & led the team at that point). Small world - I worked with Roger (the mechanic on that show / in Wayne's garage) on a fun project several years back. We built a Formula SAE single seater beast that weighed less than the racing quad we borrowed the engine and transaxle from...... That was the most fun I might ever have on four wheels. :) I miss being able to rip like that in a capable car on a closed track. Mid-engine, rear wheel drive. Great tires. Mean power to weight with a low CG and dialed geometry and suspension. Yes please!

FSAE: Real cars: http://i.imgur.com/uEQqjkc.jpg?1 http://i.imgur.com/sHstH1N.jpg?1 I have seen that very same Alfa at the Road America races, but for some reason, I've never seen a GTO there. My racing days were on motorcycles with CRA out of Brainerd. I raced a Ducati 900SS in the Middleweight class. There is no other thrill quite like that. @-holiday76, that is a brilliant shot! Carnivals are excellent photographic subjects. I like to bring a tripod with me and do some long exposures of the spinning rides at night. |
Yeah, getting good shots (even without instagram filters) arent hard in carnival settings.

What I have found is that digital photographs often come out just like the old happy-snaps you got from the drugstore or one of those little film-processing "huts" (can't think of the name anymore - how sad is that?) Since I used to do all my own film processing and printing, I like to have the same tools available for digital processing as they are in Lightroom. The key for me is to never do anything in digital manipulation that I couldn't accomplish in a darkroom. What I try to do is emulate the warm, sharp "Kodachrome" effect; and that comes from a childhood fascination with "National Geographic Magazine". Here are two scenes I believe I took within 24 hours of each other, both from a bicycle. The first at sunrise, on the way out: http://i1073.photobucket.com/albums/...pszfx28h5m.png ... and the second at mid-afternoon on the way home: http://i1073.photobucket.com/albums/...psdjs2ffja.png |

I've been hiking my ass off. I find it as strenuous as a hard bike ride, but it seems right now I can do it for longer and with less pain. Anyway, these two pics were shot a couple days apart (a rest day in between). They share a ridge that separates them (on the right in the first pic). These days, when hiking to an alpine lake, I always climb an avalanche chute on the opposite end to get an elevation shot. So much more cool than shoreline pics IMHO. Heather Lake: https://c2.staticflickr.com/8/7011/2...90dd220a_b.jpg Lake Twenty-Two: https://c2.staticflickr.com/8/7494/2...7b0aa7e1_b.jpg The best thing about both getting to these lakes (on the Mountain Loop Highway) is the country back roads drive. I finally aired out the Dinan 3 for the first time in months on those roads. God, how I've missed letting that car loose :) DD |
No Ferrari, no, no mountain. Just a very strange bike spotted on today's ride. I've posted this elsewhere but it's strange enough that it deserves to be posted here.

Excellent images all! This is one of my favorite threads in the forums. Cycling takes me to places I couldn't reach in a car, and it's a perfect vehicle for photography.
Here is my pale imitation of the carnival shot a few posts back. This would have looked brilliant at night, but I wasn't going to hang around the K-mart parking lot for three hours waiting for it. I guess I'm just not very dedicated... http://i1073.photobucket.com/albums/...ps6vuonvxc.png ... and here's one a bit earlier in the day, on the same ride. I want to go back and get this same shot in the Fall. http://i1073.photobucket.com/albums/...psob0an11f.png |
