Last fastpitch tourney for my daughter's team this weekend. My phone fell out of my pocket yesterday and the girls found it. Dang Apple and it's access to the camera while the phone is still locked. 2 summers in a row they've got me this way. At least this year it was only 20 photos or so vs 180

Unfortunately, not mine. But I drove a 62 Mini imported from Bermuda, senior college year. Right hand drive, no heater, rusted body panels.

Woah jimmuller! http://users.rcn.com/jimmuller/pics/red_on_red1.jpg My sweetie and I used to take some fun trips in them: http://www.theworld.com/~muller/pics...adillac_Mt.jpg But my sweetie was finding them uncomfortable. I got tired of them being so noisy and smelly, wanted something that meets modern clean air standards. Hence, the, um, upgrade. This car really is comfy and fast, and it corners like it is on rails. Even better, it can get mid-30's mpg on the highway if I can keep my foot off the rightmost pedal. That's one of the benefits of having a slippery shape. Porsche claims a top speed of 170, which I suspect I will never see. It's official name is a 718 Cayman. A co-worker who is an Audi enthusiast referred to it as my mid-life crisis. My neighbor laughed at that and said I should hope so! (That' means I'll live to 138. I think I could live with that, if I survive that long.) |

Naw, that's the 'vertible you're thinkin' of. And it's spelled with a "B". And an "x". But otherwise, yeah, it rhymes.
When the BBC program Top Gear tested the Porsche Cayman for the first time, the "ringleader" of that show Jeremy Clarkson dubbed it the "Cockster", in reference to a "Boxster" variant that would be bought by a certain kind of Type-A personality; one who couldn't afford, but desperately wanted, a 911. That program was so widely popular that it didn't occur to me that you might not get it. Sorry for any confusion... . |

I guess I shouldn't just automatically assume that all gearheads are familiar with "Top Gear" or Jeremy Clarkson. Now I have some `splaining to do...
I don't think I am a type-A and really don't want a 911, never have, actually prefer the Cayman because it is lighter, a bit shorter, less common, is mid-engine, and doesn't carry the macho-look-at-me connotation of the 911. But the coupe appeals over the Boxster because its shape is so pretty and because we got used to coupe-ness from driving the GT6. (And Boxter is such a silly name, let's face it.) Our frequency of driving the Spitfire top-down had dropped to zero, as my sweetie was becoming more aware of sun exposure. We spend enough time on the tandem that it's something to think about always. There is a certain implication by some folks that any male who drives a car like that does so because he feels deficient in a certain biological way, sort of like not having a sufficiently long cage on your RD, if you take my meaning. (I do confess to being deficient in knowing pop culture.) But I have always been interested in small, agile cars. If you have to drive, and sometimes you do, it might as well be in an interesting car. This is my second mid-engine car, the first being an X-1/9 a long time ago. It is even my second Porsche, the first being a '63 912 even longer ago. It is the first with this much ability to give me a speeding ticket though. And I'm loving every minute of it.:) |

My Raleigh at the sidewalk library. What a great idea. I've ridden this road hundreds of times, and never noticed it till now. White Oak Ave., Northridge, CA. I went back on the old Raleigh, dropped off three books, came home with two "new ones". https://cimg0.ibsrv.net/gimg/bikefor...0cf42d9ef2.jpg |

Jim, your Cayman is gorgeous. Excellent taste! I’m certain it will be an astonishing upgrade from a 912. I had a 912 and it was a blast. However, it certainly was not speedy. |
A few from today's rambly ride.
This sculpture was recently erected in downtown Fort Worth. The iconic last known photo of Butch Cassidy and the Sundance Kid and the Hole-in-the-Wall Gang (as shown in the movie) was taken in Fort Worth. https://cimg2.ibsrv.net/gimg/bikefor...638f6679c0.jpg Mid-afternoon view down Houston Street in downtown Fort Worth https://cimg0.ibsrv.net/gimg/bikefor...27e3f2384d.jpg First day open at the new coffee shop https://cimg6.ibsrv.net/gimg/bikefor...dac143e885.jpg https://cimg1.ibsrv.net/gimg/bikefor...a4fa5b9fc2.jpg |

Oh, yeah, pic. Creepy abandoned beach house at Illinois Beach State Park, on Lake Michigan just south of the Wisconsin state line. https://cimg6.ibsrv.net/gimg/bikefor...a1eda12b74.jpg |
