Been pretty busy with a long season of ag work, so I haven't gotten out much. A quick weekend escape up to my parent's cabin near Shaver Lake afforded me just enough time to finish a painting! This is based on a photo I took last November at China Creek Preserve in Centerville, CA. It's a rather majestic Valley Oak that I can't say I did justice... But I'm learning! Acrylic on canvas, 50x33 cm.

-Gregory Here's one I shot of my grandparents getting ready to board the first ever international flight out of Port Angeles, WA. (To Victoria, BC) Probably around 1927 or so. OK, I my iPhone and I weren't there at the time, but we were at our annual "Cousins' Day" picnic out at the lake. My uncle had this photo hanging on the wall, so I took it down to get a copy of it with my phone. [url=https://flic.kr/p/LXYHmR]https://farm2.staticflickr.com/1890/...ca8456a8_b.jpg And to make this post more vintage-bike related, here's their great-granddaughter Cierra just getting ready to ride home from the party on her early 80s Nishiki International. At a little over 5' 11" she and I are the same height. We compared arms and legs, and by golly, my first-cousin-once-removed is biometrically pretty much my twin. ( I've got a good thirty or forty pounds on her though.) Apart from terrific good looks, I guess the vintage bike appreciation runs in the family, too :P [url=https://flic.kr/p/LXYHug]https://farm2.staticflickr.com/1894/...09f46d9c_b.jpg |
^^^^^^ Buckle that helmet, young lady!
This has been the "every day" scene here on the Madison Isthmus the last 10 days or so. https://cimg1.ibsrv.net/gimg/bikefor...33e7adb6ff.jpg This is my street, about three blocks down. Lakes on either side of the isthmus are at record levels, and the storm drains are at the level of the river that runs between them. This puts some streets under water. And it's still raining. Levels have been going up and down by 3-6 inches, based on how much it rains, and how much water they allow to run from one lake to the other. We're sandbagged in, backflow valve in place, sump pump at the ready, but still hoping for the best. Between this and the construction, my commute changes on a daily basis. |
New hoods. Last ones lasted 33 years, albeit with baseball bat tape around them the last two.

cycle spinner chicken dinner The daughter was back from the University for the long Labor Day weekend so we decided to celebrate a bit at a friend of a friend of my son's chicken restaurant. This was the new artwork added since our last go round there. |

So does Death have its sights on the chicken, to supply the restaurant, or has the chicken in the basket hired Death to stalk the restaurateur in revenge? Burning question....
(And that's some extreme frame geometry.....) |

My newest old bike, a '78 Peugeot PR10 (?) in Santa Paula, CA last week. Lots of great murals around town.

LOL... no, not even close. Just one very nice camera (Leica D-lux Type 109) and many decades of practice.
. You have a good eye!!! I always enjoy your images. Best, Ben |
sometimes you mow the lawn at night so there is time for riding in the day.
