sorry to hear that about your dad.
on another note, it sure it hard to get across how steep a hill really is in photography, isnt it? here's a hill I rode up two days ago. it's pretty steep but in the pic is looks like a walk in ths woods :) https://lh4.googleusercontent.com/-V...1000003258.JPG |
I'll agree on the difficulty of showing how steep a hill is in a photo! The best I've ever been to do is this shot I took in Moab this past spring:

You said not bike related was OK? I have had so many negative things
about the pictures I have posted in the past, I said I wasn't going to post any more... But, there is a story with this one. This bird has been hanging around our house for over ten years. You can see the breast markings make it east to recognize. He, she, will get in the wheelbarrow when I mix new dirt for the flower pots and dig for bugs, there aren't any because it is NEW dirt. But we have to dig around and throw dirt every where in the process. When we sit in the yard it will get under our chairs, in the shade, and just sit there like it is listening to your conversation. It is a very clean bird, private bath, it won't let any other birds in the bird bath. We call it Nuisance! http://img600.imageshack.us/img600/7616/birdtc.jpg http://img402.imageshack.us/img402/5391/bird2a.jpg Great picture, great story, great bird!! :) BTW, is the bird still around? ;) |

http://i13.photobucket.com/albums/a2...1/IMG_8765.jpg The picture shows the great effort the rider is putting into getting to the top, the steepness of the hill, and the coolness of the rider at the top looking down.. Awesome!! ;) |
Cobrabyte, I really like your pics. I've noticed them when they pop up in a few of the threads on the SSFG board as well, they really stand out. Great subjects, colour and DOF to my untrained eye, and I think you pick interesting views of many everyday objects.

Cycling and zombies
scozim--I hope your Dad recovers quickly and completely!
My wife and I stayed in Yellow Springs, Ohio over the weekend and did some riding along the Little Miami bike trail. Zombies roamed Yellow Springs Saturday evening. I kept my chainsaw handy. The common theme of these last half dozen pics is "cold". Far too cold for my tastes. I don't envy you folks heading into another northern winter.

Riding in cold weather is "bracing"--the trick is layers and layers and layers . . . .

Nearing Halloween / Zombie Alert

While out on a ride Sunday I passed this antique type store and stopped to take a few pics.
I was a bit concerned by the 'zombie' for an instant until I discovered I had 2 other characters (angel & the 'Duke' watching my back so the Zombie had no chance. This store also had this huge cart with wooden wheels outside that dwarfed by bike as well as tons of other neat stuff. I probably took more than a dozen pics around there. http://www.bikeforums.net/attachment...1&d=1319487679 http://www.bikeforums.net/attachment...9&d=1319487672 http://www.bikeforums.net/attachment...2&d=1319487681 http://www.bikeforums.net/attachment...0&d=1319487676 |

Not sure where you get "cold" from my pic; a lot of our group last night was riding in t-shirts and shorts. I threw a flannel shirt over the top knowing that I would be riding home late, but that was almost too much.

The "particulates" in the NJ air make for some beautiful sunsets! |

When I saw your pictures it got me thinking, what would the Duke ride? The first thing that came to my head was probably a Schwinn Voyageur or a Schwinn Sierra.
