I love that E type. There was a coupe like that in a junkyard in the small (less than 1000 people) town I grew up in. It was 90% complete but beat up/rusty. My dad and I tried talking the owner into selling it to us multiple times but he insisted he was keeping it to restore himself someday. Finally gave up on the thing but last we checked it was still there. Someday...

These events are a blast, especially with the open pits where you can talk to the drivers. We were hoping to see the 1971 Tyrell F1 (ex-Jackie Stewart car) again but it broke a crankshaft (IIRC) on Friday afternoon and they loaded it on the hauler. The other bummer was watching the Kendall GT-1 Mustang tear up the track with the Trans-Am group in the morning besting a big block Corvette until he broke something in the motor. They were shutting the door on the hauler as we were walking through the pits.

There were a lot of new cars that I hadn't seen this year (gone to 8 or 9 of these now) and the rain kept many from running in the afternoon. Probably should have brought a 3 day pass thanks to the weather.

We had a great conversation with the Canadian owner of 1963 E-type who ran ok. He had a bolt in roll cage and was basically running his street car. Really clean Jag. I took a couple of photos on the track that unfortunately came out fuzzy but had one in the pits

The Formula Fords, etc. are also a lot of fun to watch - rain or shine

Pretty common just have to look. The Big one in GA is the Mitty at Road Atlanta.
Not to late for you to make the Monticello NY historic race but its a circle track I think.

I saw the image in the view finder and knew that I had something special! I couldn't wait to get it on the computer! And. Yeah! It was awesome! I didn,t see the two lil' people! Whoa!

LA has a subway?

Stopped off on the Itchen Bridge on the way home to watch some of the seven P&O cruise ships leaving port. Weather here in the UK at the moment is pants.

Caught on the 4th in Huntington Beach, Ca. Everyone rides down for the parade. Old bikes get pulled out this one day a year. We have 3 survivors here:

Varsity
Maybe Collegiate. Same color as the one that was stolen from me 34 years ago. Love the suicide DUI bar set up.
Stingray

The white bike is a new Schwinn Coffee.

Have you ever wondered if the scuffed up chrome under paint can be polished to show quality.
I tried and failed in fact I couldn't alter the finish at all so took the frame to the local metal finisher and he did an awesome job so I can leave the chain and seat stays exposed when repainting.
The right side of this pic shows how it was and left after polishing, it looks as if it was freshly rechromed. It's stunning.

I passed along a couple pairs of vintage shoes to Andycapp for services rendered (media-blasting two framesets for me). Those two pair opened a gap in my collection.

Today, I received these beauties in the mail; they'll help to ease my shoe-collecting jones for a little while ;)

Thanks for these sports car and formula pics.

This BMW absolutely nails me to the wall though.

I sold my 1972 2002 tii last year and have been going through withdrawals.

Did the right thing though and committed to another recently.

The new one has the complete headliner, no rust in the trunk, solid shock towers, and good rockers.

The last one was Verona red and the new one is a Euro market orange.

The pictured one here only whets the appetite. The drillium is the total icing on the cake.

An incredible car.

^ You ain't kidding, Grady - that baby would be my grail 2002, hands down. I wouldn't change a thing except to add a roof rack to carry a couple orange bikes :)

Someday...

You would have enjoyed last year's project quite a bit.

The new one is in a shed in southern Minnesota with 6 other BMWs.

Came across a picture of this prewar schwinn new world today.

What a beaut.

Quick question, though, what year is it? I want one.

Just a guess, but I'd say the '40s. Looks to have forward facing dropouts. I have a '39 and they had rear facing drops. The wheels, however, are ALL WRONG! :( Why?

_dylan 07-08-12 09:10 AM

It's a 37. Found out this morning.

But yea, it's a customized bike that was sold to someone who lives around me about 2 weeks ago from a vintage restoration/customization shop. They titled it "Big ole' 43 stax laced to ND skiptooth hub on a pre-war Schwinn New World."

It's not original or restored to the times, but it's still pretty appealing.

Sorry for the low quality, I'd just never seen a beach-cruiser style tandem before, and it was on the other side of a 5 lane highway that I'd already crossed frogger-style twice. Didn't feel like doing it again just for a closer look.
