I love that E type. There was a coupe like that in a junkyard in the small (less than 1000 people) town I grew up in. It was 90% complete but beat up/rusty. My dad and I tried talking the owner into selling it to us multiple times but he insisted he was keeping it to restore himself someday. Finally gave up on the thing but last we checked it was still there. Someday... There were a lot of new cars that I hadn't seen this year (gone to 8 or 9 of these now) and the rain kept many from running in the afternoon. Probably should have brought a 3 day pass thanks to the weather. We had a great conversation with the Canadian owner of 1963 E-type who ran ok. He had a bolt in roll cage and was basically running his street car. Really clean Jag. Stopped off on the Itchen Bridge on the way home to watch some of the seven P&O cruise ships leaving port. Weather here in the UK at the moment is pants.

Caught on the 4th in Huntington Beach, Ca. Everyone rides down for the parade. Old bikes get pulled out this one day a year. We have 3 survivors here:

Have you ever wondered if the scuffed up chrome under paint can be polished to show quality.
I tried and failed in fact I couldn't alter the finish at all so took the frame to the local metal finisher and he did an awesome job so I can leave the chain and seat stays exposed when repainting. The right side of this pic shows how it was and left after polishing, it looks as if it was freshly rechromed. I sold my 1972 2002 tii last year and have been going through withdrawals. Did the right thing though and committed to another recently. The new one has the complete headliner, no rust in the trunk, solid shock towers, and good rockers. The last one was Verona red and the new one is a Euro market orange. The pictured one here only whets the appetite. The drillium is the total icing on the cake. An incredible car. |
^ You ain't kidding, Grady - that baby would be my grail 2002, hands down. I wouldn't change a thing except to add a roof rack to carry a couple orange bikes :)

It's a 37. Found out this morning.
But yea, it's a customized bike that was sold to someone who lives around me about 2 weeks ago from a vintage restoration/customization shop. They titled it "Big ole' 43 stax laced to ND skiptooth hub on a pre-war Schwinn New World." It's not original or restored to the times, but it's still pretty appealing. |
