My daughter and I took two rides last week, a two hour trip and a three hour trip. We stopped at a play ground, got some ice cream (she had a taste of mine) and just had a great time in the sun. I'm hoping for 2-3 rides this week depending on how busy we are. These past few rides have been really, really wonderful.

I've got the trailer all hooked up for today... just waiting on her to wake up from a nap and we are off. Hopefully that trailer will help me shed some of that baby weight too. I'm hoping for something like 2-3 rides a week. We'll see, time will tell. After 8 months of low activity (aside from caring for a newborn), being outside and active feels great.

New build I am working on today, hope to be riding tonight. 1978 TREK TX300 with 1st gen. Dura Ace, 1st gen. Suntour Cyclone, Dia Compe 500G brakes, NOS Suzue hubs...you know, the good stuff.

I figure it's about time I posted a few pics in this thread, from a 9+ mile ride around town tonight.
Pics are of Lake Michigan, a section of the Ozaukee Interurban Trail, and the company that makes a few Presidential shoes. Enjoy. |
Progress...
http://farm9.staticflickr.com/8284/7...c32a6a14_z.jpg And ready to ride...got in about 10 miles tonight. http://farm8.staticflickr.com/7120/7...3e55df87_z.jpg |
Dang, nice looking Trek. So, how did your ride go?
|
Thanks! The ride went flawlessly I'm glad to report. :-)
The overall feel is sporty. The shifting is smooth & tight (I have to admit its much better than Campagnolo of this era) I really built this bike up as a 'copy' of my first real bike; a 1981 Trek, and its doing a great job of taking meto back to my early cycling days. Heading out this morning to get the fit dialed in and then coming home to wrap the bars in classic black cloth. |

My neighbor brought me a bag of croissants on Sunday. I debated eating them all, but ended up sharing them with my family. I regret it.
http://farm8.staticflickr.com/7262/7...eee7ecd9_b.jpg Monday we had some friends visit and, as usual, did lots of cooking and drinking. Hanger steak, flounder, creamed kale with mushrooms, cornbread and farro. A tomato is seen off to the side. Cherry clafouti and frozen Greek yogurt for dessert. http://farm8.staticflickr.com/7253/7...006ca7d9_z.jpg http://farm9.staticflickr.com/8288/7...c2849973_z.jpg I flushed a couple bunnies out of the liriope last night while trimming the grass. http://farm9.staticflickr.com/8428/7...a922c5de_b.jpg http://farm9.staticflickr.com/8151/7...e561ed56_b.jpg |

The international market had some interesting critters in the seafood department yesterday, live yellow eels and Vietnamese mud crabs:

Returning the favor to a very helpful C&Ver, I finally finished duplicating the drillium on a pair of first-generation Shimano Dura-Ace chainrings.
I'm not perfect, however, and the drill bit wandered on me twice (anodizing, particularly black, is hard stuff to get the pilot hole going on). Can you find where I touched up the oopses with black Sharpie? http://farm8.staticflickr.com/7116/7...6819af07_b.jpg For the black, I had to find a silver Sharpie to do my layout - regular black wasn't going to cut it :) After I got my reference points, I began with a small bit to do the pilot holes. I then wiped off any trace of silver Sharpie so I could determine if I had any adjustments to make with the larger bits. I made slight adjustments to some areas as I went along, and I'm happy with the result. Oh, and this marked a first: today was the first time I drilliumed something other than Campagnolo :) DD |

This is up Maple Springs Truck Trail right before it becomes dirt. All the go fast boys on their carbon bikes stop at the gate at the top of Silverado Canyon Road. Maple Springs is a bit of a climb, but it's gorgeous up here, and it's very quiet. I saw two motorcycles and three boy scouts the whole time I was up here.
