Sheeeit.....the frameset needs at least $1000 worth of work and thats assuming its salvagable.
There at least two people who don't agree with your assessment, and are willing to pony up cash. Some of the folks interested are what you might term 'whales'.

Not to mention all those who don't have cash that follow the same principle.

True and some people like the challenge/adventure of bringing something like that back from the brink of death. There's nothing wrong with pursuing ones interests but dam....thats alot of work. Alot.

Jim, I'm guessing that they will not be doing the resto themselves. A top notch resto, including rechroming the fork would be around $1k+/-. Not a lot of money for some. Look at the buying history of a few of those that asked questions.

Everyone has opinions, not everyone has the cash to stand behind said opinions. There's a popular saying to that effect.

I have a Mondia that had that kind of bubbled rust on the top tube from years of hard racing. The painter (Ed Litton) cleaned the metal bare, used some filler for the pits, and resprayed. Looks and rides like new. All the work on the buyer's part would be working to earn the dough for the chosen restorer, and then waiting for it to be finished.

I don't think that frame is toast, and OFG is right - about $1K give or take, and you have a nice restoration on the frame set. Even if the top tube was done, it ain't a huge deal to replace it before restoring. Aforementioned Mondia had a cracked head tube, and it was replaced during the refinishing process. Cost me an extra $70.

Not too much more cheddar, if you have the cheese in your pantry to begin with.......

Hell - I'd be tempted, if it were my size.

OFG: "Look at the buying history of a few of those that asked questions."

No kidding - a couple of them have commissioned drillium works from me, although one of them pinched every penny on one project

I like the guy in FL offering $800 BIN and then wanted to complete the sale off-Ebay via Paypal. Nice try...

I know, I know...

But what was frustrating was the customer wanted all this special stuff done to a pair of derailleurs and brake levers, and I quoted him my hourly rate from the git-go. I ended up having these headache-inducing conversations with him where he'd be tossing all these complicated ideas out while at the same time expecting the work wouldn't take much time, thus not much coin out of his pocket.

I was the one trying to steer him to simpler stuff as it seemed his main focus was to get a "limited edition" for peanuts. In the end, it was really not fun at all.

I won't do that again

Hey DD...want to do some work for me? I was thinking drilled brake pads, drilled QR levers, drilled crank arms, drilled pedal cages and drilled saddle. Shouldn't be too difficult. Additionally, I'd like you to panto Aaron Was Here into the chainrings with stars of David, dreidels, mini-woody allen head caricatures and mezuzahs. What do you think?

Bikes: 1967 Paramount; 1982-ish Ron Cooper; 1978 Eisentraut "A"; two mid-1960s Cinelli Speciale Corsas; and others in various stages of non-rideability.

^^^ And the rims and tires. Don't forget to drill the rims and tires.

Pretty sure all mezuzahs are drilled, at least a little. Hard to attach otherwise.

Also have to be hollow. But I suppose they could be cast that way.
