1952 Schwinn Roadbike

I recently found a bicycle in my soon to be Stepfather in-law's weed/trash pile and asked if I could have it. After some liquid wrench empowered disassembly and a can of paint stripper I got down to some bare usable metal. Turns out it is a Schwinn with the serial number on the left rear dropout, indicating it is from somewhere between 1948 through 1959, I think.

The serial number, G0785, was found to be manufactured on 12/05/1952. I haven't been able to find any photos to pin down the exact model.

Does anyone have any information on this?

Thank you,
Dan

It is a contracted Schwinn from the 1980's, made by Giant. The serial system on the dropout is from Giant, the subcontractor who built that frame; hence the confusion. I'm not that well up on decoding those - give me a minute to find the charts.

EDIT: Here's the serial chart you want: https://www.trfindley.com/Pg_Later_Sc...%20numbers.htm

G0785 = Giant, July 1985.

You should have no problem finding this frame in the 1985 catalog.

Thank you both for the help. I was a little concerned that the numbers didn't have as many digits as the Schwinn serials online. I am glad to hear this thing isn't 59 years old since I will be using it to replace my current commuter bike to get me to and from work.

Those bikes , made by Giant , make very good commuter , errand bikes & were well worth the money, in my opinion.
