stuck lock ring, any suggestions?
so i have to get this campy bb off a frame, the lock ring is stuck, i've put some torque on it when it was on the park stand and it doesnt budge, i've tried tapping the lockring tool while it's on the lockring with a mallot and doesn't work either, usually that method loosens them.
Unfortunately i stripped a couple of the groves that the lockring tool goes on, but there's still plenty more...
any suggestions?

Add some PB Blaster, spray it and take a break for a day. Find a hair dryer and heat up the BB so hot you can't touch it. The heat will help get the liquid nut loosening stuff into the threads and get the BB to expand ever so slightly.

By Var......probably hard to find now.

By Hozan....pretty widely available
You can make your own variation of this with a pair of
channel locks and a bench grinder, you just need to
leave yourself a couple of tits on the ends of the jaws.

That is a really good question...some BB's are right threaded on the left (the "adjustable side") and left threaded on the right (the "fixed side"). Don't know how your Campy is threaded, but this is obviously critical information to have.

I note that you say you tried this on a Park stand. I would get it off the stand onto some wheels, and used a folded towel to keep the lock ring tool from digging into your hands while you put all your heft onto it.
There just isn't enough surface area on a lock ring to get it that stuck IMHO.

I have had stuck lockrings..... steel on a Univega and a niskiki. Niskhiki was loosened with steel lockring tool and hammer tapping. The univega took cold chisel and hammer to loosen. One you get a little bit of movement.... an 1/8 of inch.... you can then usually use the tool alone. ymmv

You might try a vise grip on the lockring. It might ruin the lockring, but it's replaceable. It could help to use a breaker bar on the vice grip. Have another human hold the frame to keep it from rotating. The frame is a big lever, and the breaker bar is the other lever. That's got to work unless you have an aluminum/steel interface as Kurt suggested.

i'm gonna give it another go today....:S if i get a chance....i would like to get a set of those pliers..
i have a really nice lock ring tool, but it seems that when i put a lot of force it actually will break the lockring point where hooks onto and i'd have to use another part where that nipple catches, i'm gonna run out if i keep doing that..lol....
i've just got the frame, so i gotta use a stand, it's being a beeotch though..

Sometimes I will take the frame out of the stand and turn it upside down on the floor with padding underneath the contact points.
This allows for a bit easier leverage since I'm pushing down.
PB Blaster for a couple of days?
