I'm trying to keep my collection to 7 bikes - one for every day of the week - and since three of them are orange to leave it at that, too.

This bike is not helping on either account

Bikes: 1980 Motobecane Grand Jubilee

Just logged back on and what a great response, and some magnificent rides. Owned a blue 25" 1978 Super Mirage for 25yrs, missed it so much I had to have another Moto. This led me to my current ride, the GJ, great bike but I still want to replace my SM someday. The SM may not be considered in the same league as the GJ, but the ride was something special.

^ I am still trying to come up with some considered, intelligent response to rootboy's post here.

Awh shucks, Auchencrow. Side note; the original owner had that bike in a consignment shop for a while, place that sold used ski equipment and bikes, etc. Nobody wanted it. Go figure, but this was in the early-mid 80's. Thanks.

Thx.

Beautiful bikes! How did you repaint the bike? Do-it-yourself, or did you take it to a shop?

Thanks, Roy... I did paint it myself. Strictly amateur, but automotive eurathane is fairly forgiving and I'm still learning. I have a friend with a body shop and he let's me use it if he isn't busy, but makes me do my own work and cleanup... I bring my own paint and HVLP gun..

VC, beautiful Record! My first GR was a '73 I bought new. Same color too. I missed it after I moved on, and that inspired the search for the two I have now.
Thanks for sharing.

dJ,
Lovely Motos! The Grand Record somehow looks great as a Gent's 3-speed.

Thanks loose spoke/ Puget Pounder.

I have been tempted to return the G.R. to stock but it is unique in my small fleet right now...light weight nimble 3-speed. Love the Raleigh Sports and the DL-1 but they are more for crusin'.
I saw a Schwinn Voyager with the same paint scheme recently. I think you just can't go wrong with that paint design.

Yes, you do need to take some new photos of this bike cause this one stinks! NOW, get to it!!!!!!!

I have had the pleasure of seeing this bike in person, and this thing is absolutly beautiful, and this picture does it no justice at all. This is one bike I would LOVE to own.

^ Personally, I'm glad the pic stinks. If Rooty ends up posting better pics I'll probably just have to shoot myself

Thanks, rootboy and loose spoke,
I wasn't crazy about the yellow when I first got it, but love it now. I plan to not change a thing on it and keep it till I can't ride anymore.
Here's the original post: SLC, useless for vintage finds, so I thought! MOTOBECANE GRAND RECORD!
And here is the post about the gum-hoods : Gum Hoods - rejuvenate-renew !!!
And finally the flickr pages : https://www.flickr.com/photos/5714857...7626955107604/

If there's anything in particular that you'd like to see, let me know and I'll post more pictures.

Here's a pic of the tubing decal. I've not seen reproductions that have the accent above the E.

Oh yeah, I remember that one now. Found in my old stomping grounds in SLC. yeah, that 531 decal might be one of the more difficult ones to find VonCarlos. Not sure I've ever seen that one before either among the reproductions. That's Ok on further pics, VC, thanks.
Just trying, with another member, to replicate a Motobecane head badge, but different from either yours or Frank's GR's. Thanks.

I'll see what I can do Capecodder. Guess I ought to put the original and correct brake levers and saddle back on it before I shoot more pics.
