edit- also, regarding the levers - this site seems to suggest that flexing was an issue https://www.classiclightweights.co.uk...fac2-comp.html
Thanks, let's see your Gitane!

Regarding the flexing: I think that concerns mainly the Guidonnet lever. Even the NOS ones offered on eBay are cracked:

Do you have any idea how these reflectors are called? I see them from time to time on some vintage bikes. I was wondering if I can get some for a project.

Bikes: Drysdale/Gitane/Zeus/Masi/Falcon/Palo Alto/Vitus

I had always thought Maes/Kint was a specific shape of handlebar. Learn something new every day.

Fugly, is what I call them.

They were only made for a short period during the seventies. In no time the tire manufacturers had incorporated a reflective stripe in their sidewalls, which made these ghastly contraptions obsolete.

Your best chance of finding a set would be on a bike from that era.

Yeah, I guess that's the only possibility. Thanks anyway!

Walked into an unexpected car boot sale yesterday, and waddaya know: found a pair, NIB. Remembered your quest and bought them. Let me know if you're still interested. For €2 they can be yours!

I was wrong on one account though: I thought they were introduced in the late seventies, but it was actually a decade later:

"Fits 26", 27" and 28" wheel sizes". We all know, of course, that it should read "26", 28" and 27".

And that a "round circle" is a pleonasm.

Hi non-fixie! Thanks for your post. I am gonna contact you via PM. I didn't know that they were produced by HEMA, by the way.

HEMA, the Dutch version of Woolworth's. They weren't the only ones that sold bike reflectors, but their version was rather cool. And somewhat laborious. And not cheap! Fl. 16.75 would have bought you a nice Ry Cooder album.

Those reflectors ended up on this Gazelle TdF I got a while ago. This low end Gazelle from the 70s got my attention because of its condition (I don't think that the bike has been ridden much), so I thought about possibly converting it to something else. The frame turned out to be too big for me so in the end I decided to give it a complete overhaul and keep it all original (plus the reflectors ). I definitely spent too much time on the bike, but I enjoyed working on it. Can move to the next project on my list..

Wow! Impressive piece of work. The bike looks new. Those reflectors couldn't have ended up in a nicer place.

Thanks! So riding on tires without sidewall reflectors and with no reflectors whatsoever is absolutely illegal, right? How strict is this rule in the NL, by the way?

I think you may have the only fully legal bike in the country ...

What's with all the ZOMBIE threads in the C&V forum lately?

The Gazelle touring bike deserves it's own thread.

alexnagui you'll get more responses by starting a new thread rather than tagging onto a 7 year old Gitane thread.
