fyi for those shopping around for new Campy, drop a line to the guy(s) at VeloMine, a small US based shop that should be willing to work with you on pricing to match what Ribble / PBK is selling for. I bought my Athena group from them a while back, but when I realized that the 2011 shifters, while being alloy, had changed to the new power-shift or what ever they call it, and they swapped me a set of the 2010 shifters no problems at all. a big from me on communication and customer service.

Hard to compete though, when everyone I know will sell me a set of xt/717s for a good price.

...and I am going to beat the daylights out of them.

im still debating the 10spd campy mtb build using my flat bar levers. the only limiting factor is cassette size.

...if it wasnt for their poor integrated brake/ shifter design (cant shift from the drops well!) I'd probably be using the stuff.
I guess this is situationally dependent. I've got Mirage eight speed brifters on compact bars, set up so that they're straight off the top of the bars, rather than on the outside of the drops. They're easier for me to shift from the drops. I'm 6'2" with average hands for my height, so my fingers and thumbs might be longer than yours.

i know a racer that really wanted to run campagnolo but was unable to due to a missing thumb. it made for a good joke.
