I'm old enough to know this and do.
Photo above is probably a lot snap taken during a break in filming of the t.v. show based movie.
The t.v. show played once a week here on what was called the 5;30 Adventure.
Fess Parker played Daniel Boone in the t.v. show named after the lead character.
There were quite a few kids around here that wore coon-skin caps complete with the tail in honor of the show and character.

Fess Parker also played a bit part of a character in the movie Them about giant ants invading Los Angeles (if I remember the city right).

Didn't he play Davy Crockett in the Disney mini-series (back before the term mini-series was invented)? That's where the song with "born on a mountain top" came from.

There was a Disney/Fess-a-thon playing yesterday on one of the broadcast movie networks (Grit) here; Old Yellar (he played the dad, Jim Coates), Davy Crockett: King of the Wild Frontier, and Davy Crockett and the River Pirates. I watched a few minutes of the first one but having had to put down our own old dog recently I was not interested in rewatching the Disneyfied melodrama.

Could find no pix of Old Yellar on a bike.

Among the hundreds of road hats I collected during my repping days was a faux-coonkskin cap, with tail. I might still have it.

Fitting as my family and I went to the Squire Boone caverns this afternoon. Squire Boone was Daniel's younger brother, and these caverns (that he discovered with Daniel) were where he moved at the end of his life because running water coming out of the cave was 45degrees year round (didn't freeze in the winter) so he could set up a grist mill there and be able to make money on it year round.
