One of our local televison stations just started running a new batch of retro-TV programs from the 1960s. One of them is That Girl! with Marlo Thomas. Here's a photo of her Ann Marie character on her bicycle.

The recent mention of Burgess Meredith reminded that he co-starred on Broadway with Lillian Gish, the "First Lady of American Cimema", in The Star-Wagon. Here's a promotional photograph from that production, showing Lillian's Martha Minch character on what is supposed to be an 1890s bicycle. It looks more contemporary (1930s) to me.

Silent film stars Luke (the English Bull Terrier) and Roscoe "Fatty" Arbuckle on an early 1900s chainless (i.e. shaft drive) bicycle. Luke was named after Keystone film director Wilfred Lucas, who had presented the dog to Fatty's wife, actress Minta Durfee, as a "bonus" for her performing a dangerous stunt. Luke would appear in many Keystone and Comique comedies with Fatty and his partner, Buster Keaton, between 1914 and Fatty's being industry blackballed in 1921, for his involvement in a r-a-p-e (auto-censor work-around) scandal. Not in the same league as Fatty or the other big canine silent film star, Rin Tin Tin, Luke was still a celebrity in his day and had a salary of $150 a week.

I got the chance to ride with John Kerry back in '11. And also a famous (infamous) TDF guy too. https://cimg6.ibsrv.net/gimg/bikefor...f57d95d40.jpeg https://cimg4.ibsrv.net/gimg/bikefor...81813faa9.jpeg I was quite impressed with the Senator's "old man speed". |

Posting this only because I love the movie, Nights of Cabiria. Don't know if it's Fellini's best picture or not, but it's my favorite by far. Giulietta Masina is so so cute in that, and its ending is so touching and beautiful.

I don't believe that this photo of girl-next-door icon Dawn Wells (Mary Ann Summers on Gilligan's Island), has been previously posted in this thread. Since what she is riding is not technically a bicycle, I'll include two other 1960s girl-next-door types, Cynthia Lynn (Fräulein Helga on Hogan's Heroes) and Lori Saunders (Bobbie Jo Bradley on Petticoat Junction).
