Are there any Quill adapters that work well with threadless headsets? Sorry if this has been answered already, however I haven't seen anyone do away with the bulky threaded headset under an A-Head stem.

I would have thought all you would need is a quill adapter that has a bolt that goes all the way through the top cap (that would be 1-1/8 to suit most stems) and adapter (that would have a 1 to 1-1/8 shim around it). The Shim would cover the top of the adapter and the top threaded section of the steerer (- a partial shim may be required to cover the thread), or the top part of the adapter could be 1-1/8 and you would put a shim only around the threaded section of the steerer.

Additional 1-1/8 spacers would be used if required over the shim to allow for the head stem to finish slightly higher than the top of the adapter, allowing the tightening of the adapter to compact the bearings before the head set is locked into position.

without actually doing this myself (do have a project planned) I would have thought that the only issue from the above setup would be that the 1-1/8 spacers may not sit well on top of a 1 inch threadless headset?

There is now

innicycle

I haven't had the pleasure yet but they do look a lot cleaner, reportedly are high quality and depending on stem/headset choice the differences in weight might actually knock a few grams off.

Better stiffer, faster? Admittedly not as classy unless you like a more modern look
