Anyone have any strong recommendations? I'm looking for something simple that won't break the bank. Doesn't have to have a standlight but should be compatible with a rear light should I decide to wire one in at some point. I ride mostly in urban areas that are fairly well lit so it doesn't have to be super-bright, just enough to illuminate the pot holes.
I personally like the B&M IQ cyo, and I think they are up there in the same top-tier league as the uber-expensive Schmidt edelux and Supernova E3, even if they're not quite as bright. Excellent value. I have two different versions of this model on two different bikes-- one has an extended "near" field, the other does not. They cost the same, but some prefer the one with the near field extension for city commuting since it illuminates the road closer to the bike, while randonneurs who ride fast on dark roads prefer the other version since it illuminates the road a little farther away. If you consider a B&M, take the time to read about their model nomenclature-- they make a gazillion variations of the same light, with the two different lenses, optional standlight, optional auto-sensor mode, optional daytime running lights, etc... they have a very cryptic model nomenclature and it's easy to end up ordering the wrong one. And as someone mentioned above, B&M's "lyt" model is a fantastic value-- almost as good as a cyo, for half the price.

In the US, the best price for an IQ cyo is about $110, but the last one I got was from an online retailer in France, xxcycle.com, and with the favorable exchange rate it cost me $77 shipped to the US (but took three weeks to arrive).

The IQ cyo also has a taillight pigtail if you want to wire in a taillight (which is optional-- no need to run one, the LEDs will NOT burn out appreciably sooner without a taillight). This way, the taillight can operate with the headlight's on-off switch. Of course, any taillight can be simply wired in parallel with any headlight, no worries there. Oh, and on the subject of taillights-- B&M makes a whole series of them, as well.
