Started collecting mission and arts and crafts furniture and lighting as an adult. We have owned several homes from that era. Most of it is installed and in use (every light fixture in the house is antique, anywhere from late 1890s to early 1930s). Almost every piece of furniture is also antique. If you are into antique lighting, we have some nice pieces.
I am VERY interested in antique lighting wrk101, particularly of the period you mentioned. In particular the marvelous creations of the Greene brothers. Now, I wouldn't expect you to own one of those as almost all of the them are fixtures in their houses, but I'd love to see some of your lamps and lighting.

Yes I consider myself a collector/curator/restorer. While not all my bikes are in 'off the rack' configuration, I try to maintain (like most of you) the spirit of the era.

I'm a collector with bad taste. Almost all of my bikes are low-end. I even have Huffys which I took because people pleaded with me or just dropped them off.

I have 29 bikes of my own plus other bikes here for repair or other reasons. I qualify for the Hoarders TV show. It's a problem.

Dont get me wrong I do ride a fair amount but I do spend more time working on them and building them up than riding them. I can only ride one at a time anyway, and as long as I can sell my favorite bikes if needed ( somewhere around 10 "keepers", 60+ projects and flips) Im a happy man. There are a couple of people who have seen me on a bike before.

We need to get Tom Noglider some help But then, I must have 40 hammers, of all shapes and sizes, from tiny jeweler's and watchmaker hammers to metal working and body hammers, to big stuff. I use them, though not all of them, and mostly like them because they are old, well made and handy when you need them. I'm not sure if that makes me a hammer collector or a hoarder.

You must be the opposite of the "if the only tool you have is a hammer" type

Umm, do I have to admit to all my collecting (accumulating?) habits?

I currently have 11 ready to ride bikes that fit me, 2 for my GF, 3 C&V in various stages of build, and a touring bike I am building for my GF. The 11 are mix of modern (yes even CF road and full suspension MtB) and C&V.

Then there is the "other" stuff.

Knives I've dabbled in for years, to the point where I have around 30. Mostly traditional, some old, some new, some production, some custom, some fixed blade, some folders.

Guns too, 20 of 'em. Side-by-side shot guns from 1893 to 1920; long guns-single shots, lever, and bolt; single action revolvers and mostly German semi-autos.

Fishing tackle. Who knows how many rod and reels, over 50 of each at last count. Mostly saltwater, with a bit of trout and salmon gear.

Books. Loads of bird books, books on Baja California, travel books, Hemingway, biographies, US regional history and narratives...........

Optics, multiple binoculars and spotting scopes. Boats-5 1/4, that's 3 real boats, 2 kayaks, and a partnership. Decoys, art, I guess there is very little moderation.

I like "stuff" and I like to use my "stuff". There are not enough weekends!

If you guys want to help me, you can come and pick up my stuff. I'll let most of it go for between free and what I paid for it. Most of it, I'll charge close to $0.

To view me in the moment, one would call me a vintage racing bicycle collector. To view my collection, over the years, that same person would consider me to be a vintage bicycle salesman.

My "collection", perhaps better defined as "preferred inventory", usual hovers between ten and fifteen really nice bicycles. To maintain that self imposed number, something old has to go when ever something new is added. Had I kept every decent bicycle I had found, it would be this many. Yup, I have found, worked on and sold almost every bicycle linked on that page. Hundreds! It would be foolish for me to even consider keeping them all. Proper storage, maintenance - consider the ramifications?

To my bicycle interest, add unintended pocket knife collecting. Though I have never attempted to purchase even one pocket knife, they seemed to have piled up over the years, and some have interesting "how found" stories to go with them, but I have no pictures - yet.

Not a collector.

I work on bikes, ride bikes.
Occasionally, I sell or buy bikes.
I sometimes trade bikes.

The purpose of my bike ownership is to ride them.

Same as BlueDevil63 with the exception that I rotate through all my bikes to give them equal time out on the road.

...on a nice sunny day of course.

Yes I'm a collector.. a collector of projects, I will admit though.. the bike thing is worse then anything else by far.. I used to collect games (not the vidyo kind), arcade machines, old computers, etc... now all those collections are down to just what I really wanted... but the bike project pile grows.. and grows.. and grows...

Bikes: too many or not enough

I didn't answer Rootboy's "what else do you collect?" question. I have a large collection of beer cans - no not a pile of Bud Light cans, but cans from the beginning of the use of cans to the 70s. I like the graphic designs and typography. I have a small mechanical watch collection. I would have more but they are expensive. I have a small gun collection and probably will have more now that I live in an area with a number of gun clubs and indoor ranges. I have many hundreds of books. There are many other things I would collect if I had the money and space. So I guess you could say I am a collector in a generic sense but I don't think I have gone over the line into a hoarder. I don't keep worthless things but things that I think most people would recognize as having some value and appeal even if they don't share the specific interest. I don't like most modern abstract art but I certainly appreciate people who collect it.

I'm both, collector and rider. I don't ride as much as I want to so I look at my wall hangers when the weather is bad.

I also collect vintage surfboards in a reduced capacity ... I've been selling them off over the past few years to fund the bicycles. Surfboard prices went thru the roof a few years back ...

I aslo collect wooden fishing lures .. nothing fancy, I just like the variations, patina and colors. I don't even fish!

Aww yeah, those custom knives are beautiful, and thats exactly why I love them so much. The quality and crafsmanship are suprb. I collect mainly Case XX, but also have Boker 'tree brand, kershaw etc. But riding and working on C&V bikes is my main passion.

First a rider, then after 10 or so years of long distance touring I decided I needed to learn how to wrench on my own bike, otherwise i wasnt very self sufficient. My touring partner always did the work for me before that. So i purchased my first bike to teach myself how to wrench in very early 2008, then over the past 4 years that turned into many bikes going through my hands and I currently own more bikes that I can reasonably ride. So at that point it's not rational to not consider myself a collector at least on some level. That said I don't have wall hangers and never hold onto stuff that isnt relevant to my own personal uses.

Other collections? Aside from baseball cards I still own since i was 10 I can't really think of anything though at other times in my life i've owned more motorcycles, scooters, and mopeds than I really needed. As i've gotten older i've come to accept that i'm really not very organized, so "collections" just tend to turn into a bunch of stuff laying around.

Bikes: Schwinns, lots of them. Some Paramounts

I'm a collector and the wife and I are/were semi-pro yard sale fanatics. We were doing this heavy in the 1990s and until the past few years when ebay mania really dried-up the garage and yard sale stuff. These couple of decades of doing this as a hobby. (Something we both enjoyed and a nice way to spend time together)
Resulted in large quantities of the specific stuff we like.

My stuff is well organized and I keep it nice so I think I am not a typical hoarder.

I have been actively collectiing Vintage Schwinns of every variety for almost 20 years now. I have about 50 of them that are nice and 10 or 15 parts bikes. I always tried to limit my vintage bike buying/collecting to only Schwinns are that is what interests me but also to control my urges. But in the past few years I have bought some high-end road bikes from other manufacturers. (especially if Campy equipped and cheap enough to not pass up)
This has resulted in me being somewhat of a CL flipper but not as a way to make a living, just subsidize my habit.

I have a climate controlled building where I keep the bikes and I have several vintage autos as well. I've been into collector cars for about 35 years. I have some real nice older GM cars but lately I am buying-up pristine low mile examples of 1980s Japanese Sports Cars and low mile survivor Japanese cars in general.

I have a huge 1970 Pioneer based stereo set-up in the building and hundreds of LPs as well as Marantz receiver and the like at home. So I can play classic rock in my work shop which is an atmosphere I enjoy when hunkered-down in the winter.

Most of the stuff I collect are things I could not afford when I was younger and enjoy having it now.

other than bikes i used o collect baseball caps, i have about 110 of them, i don't really buy any hats anymore.

also i like buying high priced electronics, like bose headphones and sound systems and whatnot, but i don't know if that counts as collecting

This, also I can remember the birthday when I go a new bike. Now get that new bike birthday feeling every week or two.

My collection is not ready yet, I should have 22 perfect higher end race bikes in my size (mostly 60cm, a few 58's) by spring time. As well as a various tandems, beater bikes, 650b's and bikes for visitors to ride.

when I do something, I like to really do it.

Bikes: You mean this week?

I collect bike-chairs:

I'm not so much a collector as a stopping point for aging and unappreciated cycles. Some are just passing through, but some stick around for a while.
