Whoo! Unexpected win on ebay.

Thanks - I'm thinking day-tripper, maybe with a rear rack. Larger tires and leather saddle and bar tape? That's about as far as I've got. I want to build it up for the Spring and ride it from Toronto to Welland Ontario to see the Comfort Giant Maple tree.

There's lots of beautiful riding once you get close to Niagara Falls. A lot of the ride there is pretty dull though. Last time I got lost in Niagara on the Lake, and it was one of the nicest places to ride I've ever been. The great thing about the Falls trip is it's a nice day-trip out, you can stay overnight and take in a few sights and then ride back the next morning.

Are you sure it isn't a replacement fork?

Nice! Usually when I have an "unexpected win" on eBay, I discover what the other bidders figured out when it arrives.

That's usually me, too. I hope it's not in this case! As to the fork, it could be a replacement - the seller is selling it on consignment and wasn't able to provide any details other than who it was built for. The fork seems to "go" with the frame aesthetically, but that's about all I can say. I just won it last night. Likely when it arrives all the threads will be stripped or something knowing my luck.

I had a Waterford 1200(?) like that. It was designed for credit card/supported touring. It still made no sense to me but that is what I was told on the Waterford forum.

If it was ever an issue, you could just use P-clamps. I read that some of the Melton frames had the same thing going on. Supposedly some of his left over frames and forks were matched together after his shop closed, so sometimes the fork and frame eyelets didn't match.

May be the case here. The bike was designed for a specific person for an equally specific purpose, so who knows? I think the original owner used to play for the LA Dodgers so maybe I can track him down and ask him!
