Barn Find Ochsner build.
The bike cleaned up pretty well. It shows every single finger print as I build it. Got most of the rust off but the fork almost seams Nickle plated. Its stained. it looks good but flawed.
This bike is worthy of my NOS campy stuff
NR brakes
SR cranks
C record R deraileur
Athena F deraileur
Junky old seat post (need 27.0 campy)
Athena friction shifters.
Campy NR sf hubs (newly aquired and shined up)
Cinelli stem and bars
Rims soon to be determined.
spokes will be DT
Chain Sedisport gold.
Pedals Look
Rider Fat and out of shape.
Ill post more as I build it. Waiting for new decals from Ochsner.

I talked with the guys at Ochsner and asked them what year it was. They said late 80s. When I asked "are you sure?, it has first gen dura ace on it" they laughed and said "Do you honestly think we would put Shimano on anything?". They are a campy distributer and has been for years.
SO... i thik im going to stay with the campy on the Ochsner and maybe put the NOS dura ace parts on the panasonic frame that I have.
Call in sick Ridealot...hitting the barn on Wedneday.

The Panasonic frame is fantastic as well! That one deserves some late eighties Dura Ace. I don't think I have ever seen one in that color combination before.
That is what I like about this forum... I stumble in here curious about Ochsners being found in barns and get my mind blown by a PICS Panasonic as well. 2 for 1 day here or what? :-)

I did the exact same thing! If that's NOS I'd use as it as the most expensive paper weight until I found the perfect project for it. IMO that first gen C-Record group is gorgeous. The pantographed cranks with the hidden spider are just spectacular.

I used to have a set of those Dura-Ace brakes 25 years ago - I thought the world of them.
Of course, the only thing I had to compare them to was the Dia-Compes that came on my Schwinn World Sport.

are they "rub-down" type transfers? if so there will be a slight tackiness on the backside of the transfers; remove the backing paper; position the transfer on frame, helps to tape the carrier sheet with masking tape so it won't shift; rub over the surface of the carrier sheet with a stylus (can be anything with a smooth rounded point, even a soft pencil)try to stay right "in the lines" of the artwork since you could end up with adhesive transferring whenever you rub, it's colorless but sticky. The pressure of the stylus causes the transfer to both release from the carrier film as well as stick to the frame, sometimes neither thing is very easy since the adhesive isn't sticky enough and the release doesn't let go easily you have to rub and peel as you go...slowly and with care. Once it's on you place the backing paper over the art and rub (burnish) really good to set the adhesive. These sort must be clear coated or you could scratch them with just a fingernail (or strip completely off with clear packaging tape).

How did it go yesterday? Any other treasure? Let me know if you found any great 60-70s stuff, or older frames in the 58-60 range!

My experience is that most clears don't go really smoothly on a polished surface like chrome...but if these are "normal" rubdowns they are made with a lacquer ink and need protection, but you have to be very careful about the solvents in the spray, too. Lacquer thinners can cause them to "melt" and run. I recently tried the 2-pack urethane clear that Eastwood sells, but was not impressed with the texture, too pebbled, and it's $$$. I might experiment first with a test rubdown on scrap chrome, have had pretty good results with a Rustoleum clear they call "clear enamel". I might even try a brush-on clear if it has a safe solvent, just cover the transfer itself.

unworthy. I was talking to a frame builder today. he also suggested like you did that maybe a brush on clear just over the decals would work. Thanks for your suggestion. Since he gave me like eight full sets of decals I will experiment on some other chrome.....now..what do I have her thats Chrome/**********?
