Interesting frames! Just the other day I noticed, at work while chaining my bike up, this bike:

Obviously, the owner is commuting on this bike

One early version of the twin tube design came from Saxon during the mid 1930's .
Another odd ball design from just after WW2 was the Rench,Paris Galiber . An even earlier version of this design was the very rare Schuz Funiculo. Pictures of one are on the web
One of the reasons of the number of strange frame designs in the uk during the 40's and 50's was because of the strict rules on press advertizing in both amateur & professional cycling . Hence a frame that really stood out got round it.
Short wheel base were all the rage during the 30's and 40's to the 50's in the UK . Saxon,Sun,Baines,Paris,Claud Butler. Most were built by small artistan companies.

Further to any posts I have made, above, I have just found (on the net) the 1938 Sun Catalogue (see
threespeedhub.com/wp-content/uploads/2013/04/SunCycles-Catalog-1938-UK.pdf )
I am not permitted to post URLS so you probably have to copy/paste it
It confirms my memory that the Manx TT was originally a normal Diamond Frame with the 'Strutted Bracket' , though I didn't recall the original Manxman as listed .. (I was only 3years old in 1938) .. with a standard Diamond Frame.
I note there is no mention of Reynolds 531 (unless I have missed it)

As I do not have link or picture rights posting is difficult. It make thing worst the photo bucket pictures have disappered
MKM cycles based in Harrogate England built a short wheel base frame in the 1970's which was lugless and even had no supporng strutts behind its b.b . The design of this frame was very similar to the Sun Manx tt.
If you search for MKM cycles Harrogate history you will find out more about these classic British bikes and the men behind there building.

I found a neglected Sun last year.
A young chap was selling his grandpa's bicycle. The old man died like 20 years before and his old bike stood untouched in the bike shed since then.
After a bit of a clean I could make out the name Manx TT on the down tube, and a very early 531 transfer on the down tube just below the bottom head lug. Serial Dxxx making it a 1937 model.
Although it needs a lot of work, it's mostly there

Nice find .. treasure it, but please don't over restore it .. it has a history .. the headstock badge certainly is prewar for a top of the range Sun .. it continued after only on the cheaper models .. eg .. Sun Club .. so original .. Cantilever brakes, Williams C34 chain wheel .. probably the original Bluemels celluloid mudguards .. where are you?
