I was wondering when "retirement" would come. Personally I was thinking I could reboot it one more time... but if you're not herding the cats what would be the point? But you're not off the hook just yet.

Thank you for your understanding and I'll post what I received soon enough.
Hopefully all is well on your end!

USPS says it was delivered today, so I look forward to a (heavy) proxy for Christmas when I get home. However, I'm doing Ride of Silence this evening, and then there's the Blackhawks game, so I won't even peek at it until tomorrow at the earliest. Plus, I'm going out of town for the long weekend. Might be next week before it gets back on track.

M A V: thank you for checking in and giving us the current status; whew (wipes the sweat off his brow)!

Hang in there, whatever it is - hope you made at least some good pickin's out of the Box

RS: yup, still here. And how did I know that if we'd had to reboot version 5.0 (or whatever it is today), you'd be the man to step up? But the Box lives to fight another day, so for now retirement is off the table

It's a good thing I like cats.

I confirmed that the box did arrive today. However, I had a hard time finding it. It wasn't by the mailbox. I didn't see it when I parked my bike in the basement. It wasn't upstairs. I went back to the basement figuring I had missed it. Sure enough, I had. There was a bag on the floor:

I unhooked the velcro strap, then reached in and grabbed the box. A bunch of stuff fell out. This is the box (not including the freewheel peeking out of the bag or the other stuff you see in the background):

I hope no good crap was lost.

Needless to say, I will get a new box. I think that going forward we might want to self-impose a weight limit on the box and/or not reuse the box and/or reinforce it in some way (at least, glue some extra cardboard into the corners)... More later when I've had a chance to go through things.

This isn't a bad idea. Seems to me like wrapping the dickens out of it in clear packing tape is also a valid approach (worked for me last time around).

That was a brand new box, corner reinforcement would probably help.

I was out of town all weekend. Went straight from vacation to work this morning. Only got home this evening. The box is reinforced with tape on the outside. I sacrificed a couple small flat rate boxes to make inside corner braces, held in place with on-topic glue:

I'll try to get it packed up this evening and shipped off tomorrow evening.

Okay, here's my "haul":

I need a shorter stem for my commuter. The grips will go on a Schwinn Racer I'm cleaning up for my niece.

Here's the box before being buttoned up (and before the Bag o' BOC Stickers were tossed in):

The bits I added are all visible in the shot (even a couple NOS bits o' crap). I resisted the temptation to throw a couple things out. "Oh well. Maybe something will have a small part someone needs." I also resisted the urge to throw everything in the ultrasound cleaner.

I did do a little bit of tidying up:
  • removed a couple frayed cable fragments (come on people - it's not Box o' Tetanus)
  • rubber banded together a couple halves of parts that seem to have lost one another

One last thing. I don't have Sloar's address. I sent him a PM a few minutes ago when I realized I'd never asked him for it (and I don't recall him sending it to me - at least I don't see in PMs dating back to January).

I've had some luck with doubling up boxes by forcing one flat-rate box inside another of the same size. You lose a little bit of volume but not much.

Yesish, it's happened before but typically not so tightly stacked... practice discretion though and we won't need yet another rule.

Consider it taken care of, the list just isn't updated yet as DD has time for a life but I'm on it.

Hey Crap Aficionados,

I owe this group an apology. There's a good chance I may be away when the box of crap arrives. Esteemed member sloar wrote to me the other day to confirm my address. I should have realized at the time that I have some upcoming travel plans and asked to be put further down in the rotation, but I spaced. I promise not to go ultraspontane on the box o' crap, but I want to give people a head-ups that I may be delayed in forwarding the box. There is still a chance the box will arrive before I leave. If that's the case, I'll have my crap ready so I can mail the box on my way out of town. If I miss the box, I'll make arrangements for it to be held safely and will mail it asap when I return. Apologies to @sloar and @BluesDaddy (next) and anyone else down the line that is anxious for their crap.

Communication is key. Even if you're behind the eight ball for some reason, just a note like @gaucho777 sent does the trick.

Thanks for the kind comments and understanding. Hopefully the box will arrive before I leave and it won't be an issue, but I'll keep you posted either way.
