The stuff you read in other forums...

Spotted in the Roadie while waiting for something here at work:
Bibs and jersey, bibs are pretty much a necessity for any ride above 20 miles, I can't even ride 10 miles without mine. Jersey is optional, but still recommended.
Wish somebody had told me that thousands of miles ago. Oh, I forgot, that was in the Roadie, wasn't it? Nevermind.

What other strange stuff you hear or read while not at a LBS?

I'd agree with that roadie. Anything over an hour on a bike, I prefer to have a chamois protecting the nether region. As for the jersey, I definitely don't want to wear a cotton tee after 30 minutes. The stuff doesn't wick. Either wool or synthetic is OK with me.

The easiest way to start a flame war over there is to say bibs are a waste of money. They are, by the way.

Bibs and jerseys are great but I have had success going out for 60miles in jeans and a t-shirt many times before.

I prefer a camel hair shirt and cilices for anything over ten miles.

Only riders I pass on the way to work are homeless dudes. Apparently two jeans and multiple types of shirts work just fine too.
Dont even need to be washed

When I go to SSFG forum I feel too old
When I go to the Roadie forum I feel too poor
When I go to the commuting forum I feel too wimpy
When I go to the training forum I feel too lazy

I always come back to C&V where its ok to be old, poor, wimpy and lazy.

(Occasionally I'll drop into the recumbent forum to feel elitist)

I love tops with the three pockets at the back. Perfect for keys, phone, apple/choclate and even other bits and bobs.

I only wear bibs on group riders or I feel even more the odd one out then normal

Entry level vintage bike $0-$100 on average, entry level 41 bike $1k-$2k on average... I used to try and read the 41 as some twisted attempt to gain knowledge for my road riding.. but you guys are much better.

In my youth in the 70s, we would usually be riding in jeans with no underwear and a plain cotton tee and on summer travels would often cover 60 - 100 miles a day.

(I have only recently returned to cycling and thus far have found regular Docker's shorts more comfortable than padded bike shorts. But I'm told I need to try other brands of bike shorts.)
