Depending on which bike I bring this year, it may either have a triple with a 24 granny, or a 13-34 freewheel. Or 650b wheels. Or all three, just for good measure.

Gugie is working on a project frame for me and if all of the stars align it will be my steep hill and/or poor road surface travel bike.
A 650b bike with low gearing would be good on this ride, not that the roads are crappy though. I have two Trek project frames hanging in my garage and this may motivate me to do the 650b project.

I was one of those people who rode the metric century. I meant to save you some beer and food, really I did,

I just made reservations at The Walker House. If anyone wants to do some riding in that area before or after the Dare, let me know. I have a few days I can spend in the area exploring.

We generally try to go at least on Friday, better yet to go Sunday, too. I should be there Thursday to Monday.

Sunday would be good esp. if it is a flat ride perhaps on one of the rail to trail conversions? I really don't know the area.

Is it still daring?

Is the Dairyland Dare still riding along? I'd love to do it, and since the Bombay Bicycle end of July ride from Blue Mounds to Taliesin conflicts with Ragbrai, a hilly August ride might be sufficient penanxe for doing the Iowa ride!

That leaves the Wisconsin Gran Fondo, the Dairyland Dare. I'm thinking about the 200K route. Which is over 12,000 feet of climbing. A real ass-kicker.

FYI - the Bombay ride in July, the Wright Stuff Century, is no more. It may be resurrected as a club ride Labor Day weekend.

Thanks could be just the thing for replenishing legs still recovering from Dairyland Dare!

What bakery/Cafe? I'm work in Madison, live in Monona and hope this arthritic '61year-old can do the ride on a '94 Trek 610 I picked up out of a Barneveld Barn (already has a triple on it). But I'd enjoy seeing your bike and shipping some good java sometime.

'94 or '84 610?

This is mine:

I might even bring it but we'll have to agree to wear different color bike clothes if I do. I built it to do the Dare with a triple (48/38/26 and 13-28 on the rear) but I ended up bringing my bridgestone RB 1 last year.

Beautiful, and near exactly like mine (I think mine's one frame size up, but same color). You've got quite a lovely stable-- envious of your Bridgestones and the Trek 720. I've ridden an '85 Miyata 610 mainly for the last two years and had hoped to tear that down this winter but time got consumed, and I have the Trek 610 waiting.
Here it is (if Google photos works with the forum...)

well...that's a folder of pix, but maybe overkill. Once more, with feeling:

The pics do come through. The paint job looks great on your bike. Those Imron paint jobs were first rate.

Yeah--fellow had bought it new when he moved to Barneveld, in the unglaciated part of the state. Had a nice Sugino AT triple put on, and 27" Super Record tubleless wheels with campy hubs (that I'm not sure I'm worthy of), but gave me the original 600 cranks and wheels, too. It had been hanging in his shed for the past 20+ years. Quite a find for $50. Are you running original wheels on yours? If so, what tires?

That's a great deal for $50. I bought it as a frame from someone on BF for more than you paid for the whole bike! The only thing original is the headset. I tried to build it up with shimano since the bike originally came with shimano 600 stuff. I'm running downtube shifters but I think I'll go with indexing shimano 7s. The wheels are ambrosio elite clinchers with a shimano hub up front and a specialized in the rear. The tires are panaracer t serv 700 x 28c. I like them; they're lightweight and very solid.

Barneveld is a cool place. Would love to see you there. We may ride through on Friday from Dodgeville to Mt Horeb on the trail.

Yep, you're dating yourself right there. That's what I call it, too. Now they call it the driftless area. No clue why.

Couple things.

First is the Dare website is down. Hopefully just updating and or maintenance.

Second, I updated the website - Viva Cycling
Check it out. More or less done, probably a few tweaks but close enough. Bike registration is open. It's free. You can do it more than once too. If you want to hang out, please, please register. It helps with planning and you get cool free stuff. Did I mention it is cool and free?

And C, I updated the Facebooky thing - https://www.facebook.com/Vintage-Cla...7479702487759/
If that is your thing, like stuff, spread the word, etc.

I have located a house on Shakerag St, $200/night sleeps 5, parking, and 2 bathrooms. Please let me know if folks are interested. I've got my sister checking on availability, it was just finished a couple of weeks ago. I can't swing $200/night myself, but with commitments, can reserve it for at least Friday. I'd recommend Fri/Sat.

Tour De Coulee

Tomorrow is Stage 1 of the Wisconsin Gran Fondo. Anybody riding? I am thinking just the 50. Soccer and work has filled by spring to date, so the 100 maybe a bit much, and I have to be back in Madison by 2:30 for Soccer. Just curious.

Looks to be a lovely day for a ride

Wait...you can't ride a century and be back in Madison by 2:30?

Especially on that bit**in' black Paramount of yours?

I'm shocked, sir! Shocked, I say! Surely you jest!
