Ebay warning thread?

Hi All,

So, two days, two bad Ebay transactions:

-P6 frame, bought it for pennies, seller claims that the frame was found to have a "crack" while packing. Seller ID: flip_it_inc

-Brooks Professional, bought for about $20, seller claims that the item was sold locally, AFTER THE AUCTION ENDED!! Seller ID: coahbar

These crooks are to be avoided at all costs. If they remain in business, after such shenanigans, that is.

Ticked off doesn't begin to describe how I feel about Ebay sellers right now!

Anybody else I should avoid doing business with? Please post, I'm getting quite fried right now over Ebay sellers.

Seller's remorse. Ought to be against the rules. Or, is it?

Regarding the Brooks saddle, file a non delivery of item claim. The seller must follow through once a bid has been placed.

As for the cracked frame, if you doubt the sellers claim, take the item anyway.

Turns out that the frame isn't especially great, not worth the effort. The saddle was well worth the effort, went through the entire process to get the seller to make it right, refused, filed a claim. Hopefully the saddle seller will have his lose his Ebay account as a result. It turns out that he has done this once in the past. With 40 transactions total, two fraudulent ones is grounds for termination, IMO.

As for this being boring, don't you think it's important to make sure that these sorts of sellers get their just desserts?

And from the other side (seller): I tend to get one deadbeat buyer every month or so. Here's the last one: cherie1867

She claimed her 10 year old placed the bid by mistake, and needed to to cancel the auction. I guess her 10 year old made a lot of mistakes, like asking me questions about the sizing, and the shipping, etc.

And oh yeah, the same buyer bought that same label garment, in the same size, several times. That 10 year old has been real naughty.... I could have forced her to get a deadbeat (no pay) strike, but then be prepared to lose my top rated seller discounts.

if the seller no longer has the item, what exactly do you expect to come from this? make the seller go out and buy a brand new brooks and then ship it to OP at a loss? LMAO?

filing a claim might give the guy a strike on his account, doubt it would suspend it, but even if it did. he could just make another account.

waste of time imho. just leave neg feedback.

In theory, when you have a binding deal (which this technically is) a merchant is obligated to do that although it could be a used old brooks saddle. Yes, even if he must lose money on the deal. In practice it doesn't happen often because the buyer isn't actually damaged in a situation like this.

I don't advise doing anything to the seller (I don't advise not to). I would say just this: buy from a reputable site or known merchant to minimize the chances of this happening.

You're not going to achieve anything by giving negative feedback because they will just give you negative feedback.

Poppycock. Sellers cannot leave negative feedback for buyers, not for a while now.

You believed his story, I didn't. He didn't sell the saddle, obviously he didn't get as much as he wanted since he cooked up the story only after the auction was over.

Exactly! He couldn't leave negative feedback. He left positive feedback with the comment: "An Ebay enthusiast"

He got caught and he knows it. Now, if Ebay terminates his account, we have one less crook to deal with.

You may be right but I think eBay would give him a warning, he did break their rules and I don't think he could do this too many times. I think it would be better to this, than nothing at all.

Out 'em, OP. I support. I am sick to death of people who haven't learned the simple lesson in life that allows everyone to get along: be freakin' honest.

By the way, in case one or two of you didn't understand: the OP stated he won the auction and that the seller claimed it sold locally after the auction closed. What should be expected is that the seller honors the deal. Case closed.

People can talk gray areas on Ebay until they're blue in the face. The fact remains that the rules are the rules.

I've added all three handles from this thread to my blocked list. Thank you. As for "buying from a reputable site", I get that except for one thing: even those started with zero feedback.

Honesty pays in the long run - period.

Sorry; touched a nerve. I've taken my meds. I'm better now

Thank you DD! It wouldn't be so bad if it hadn't been two in two days. Enough is enough, I'm mad as double-toothpicks and I'm not taking it any more! [not so thinly veiled reference to "Network" which you youngsters probably haven't a clue about]

Affirmation is great, now for my meds! Serenity Now!!

Taking my meds now too. Actually glass #2 of something from Trader Joe's, I think it's what we call 'Good-O Vino.'

(I've been on eBay for many years and have yet to have a transaction actually go bad, though a couple were slightly dodgy. I started to write an account of a recent sale that seemed like it was going to go south...but it was boring me to write it and would have been awful to read, so I'm sparing you. Fortunately I am not onto glass #3 yet. )

Bikes: old ones

Looking for justice on Craigslist and E-bay is like searching for love in Las Vegas.

Whatever you find that passes for it will be fleeting and very unsatisfying. Let it go.

Ebay is but a mere shadow of what it was in its early days. They should just drop all pretense and rename it "Sometimes You Win, Sometimes You Lose".
