Happy 50th Birthday RogerM :)
Myself and Scozim met up at RogerM's spacious home today at the invite of Roger's wife, Marie. In the past couple of weeks, Marie, Scott and myself have been in cahoots planning a get-together to celebrate that 50-year milestone in the proper way.
The original plan was to take in a short ride - with Roger's son Thomas - on the Centennial Trail to kick things off. Weather report was not favorable, so we scotched that idea. Scott and I showed up around 1100 and we bike-geeked for a couple hours until the rest of the guests filtered in as the day moved along. Before lunch, we got to take a look at Roger's collection:
Atrium bike-cave:

Super-rare (one of only five built) Joe McElroy tandem:

2003 Serotta:

Party decorations:

The we sat down to eat; Marie fixed some super-duper lumpia, a great salad and a giant bowl of mouth-watering pancit while one of her neighbors brought a huge platter of spicy shrimp. Lunch was fantastic! Then Roger opened up his gifts:
Framebuilding book from Scott:

Drillium gear levers from - guess who?

Chocolate-covered pretzels!

It's official:

The cake:

More to come...

Ready for cake:

Blowing out the candle with a little help from Thomas:

Cutting the cake:

And then Roger suddenly aged another 50 years right before our eyes:

Marie put on a great party, but she took so many photos she never ended up in any of mine! I would be willing to bet Scott got a few of her in his pics - and I probably appear in a couple of those as well
Roger's got a couple of great kids, too - you could tell they love their daddy, you know? I think it comes through in the pics, too.
Well, guess what? Seems as though nobody goes away from the Morrison's house empty-handed, particularly on a birthday. Scott walked away with a Peugeot frameset and a Snohomish County P.U.D ballcap. I also received a P.U.D. ballcap and Roger gave me this cool poster when I began salivating over it while he showed us his fantastic poster collection:

If any of you have perused my Flickr account, you'll have seen numerous pics of Paola there; I'm a big fan
Roger's a lucky guy - Marie really wanted to make his 50th special, and she must know the guy pretty well since she really wanted the day to be bike-centric; to that end, she invited his cycling pals, commissioned the special cake and a great time was had by all.
Happy 50th, Roger; thanks to you and your family for the invitation - I'm glad I got to share in this special day.

It was definitely a fun time. Even skating a little as I was after being in Denver all week, home for the afternoon/evening yesterday and off to the party today. Fortunately my wife is very understanding as this was a special day to spend talking bikes and enjoying great company and food.
Roger has a great collection of bikes - I've never seen so many 62-64cm bikes in on place - from the Stan Johnson to the PSV to the Serotta's and the Joe McElroy tandem. They were all fantastic bikes - and many were blue which happens to be my favorite color on a bike.
He also wheeled out some shorter bikes including a very nice Cannondale that's Marie's and a really nice Centurion in a red/white color scheme. Definitely a C&V'er with good taste.
I was so busy having fun I actually forgot to take many photos. I did snap this one (also in Every Day pics) from early 90's Mongoose mtb with the funkiest, yet coolest front suspension setup.

Happy 50th Roger. That's a great age. My dear wife turns fifty in less than two weeks.
I must say, you don't look a day over ..... 48.
Say D. Dude, if Marie is not in the pics, who are the other two women in those photos? Besides Paola.
Looks like a fun time. I love those signs. And I'm glad to see that bench top, or rather, not see it... in Roger's shop.
A clean bench is a sign of someone who's not really trying!

Congrats on the 50 thing! Slipped through that portal this year myself. Fortunately, my family did NOT subject me to the silliness of the "OLD" man thing. I slipped off for a 50 mile solo for my 50th. (my first in several decades) HAD to do something rash!

From the first overall image, there must be a model train layout somewhere in the house.
