Need Help Identifying This Bike
Hi everyone,
I bought this bike recently, but I don't know who the manufacturer is. I am new to bikeforums and pretty new to cycling. I love vintage bikes and I am hoping that with the vast knowledge found on these forums this bike can be identified.
It has a really cool pushrod front derailleur (Simplex). The rear derailleur is a Shimano Tourney. Simplex shift levers and front skewer. Rigida wheels, Normandy front hub, Maillard reah hub and skewer. I can't tell the brand of the brake levers. Weinmann 750 rear brake with a cool quick release feature that I've never seen before, MAFAC front brake, and a unique (to me) AVA stem. The frame has some cool detailed cut outs on the lug at the top of the head tube.
There is what appears to be a serial number on the non-drive side dropout which reads "772122". It seems to have been repainted at some point. I see no other identifying marks or decals on the bike other than what appears to be a "C" or "O" stamped on the bottom bracket and "44 Bart" written with white paint underneath the downtube near the head tube.
I bought this off of craigslist as part of a two bike deal. The owner had them in his attic for about 7 years. He said that the guy that he got them from said this this was an expensive bike.
I have attached links to some pictures. There 31 in all.
p.s. This is my first post on bikeforums so please bear with me as I learn and let me know if there is some sort of etiquette that I am not following (like linking too many pictures).
Thank you!

It's an early-70's Peugeot UO-8. It wasn't an expensive bike. Lots of stuff on it are non-original, such as the rear derailleur, pedals, brake levers, rear brake caliper, rear cable yoke, rear brake cable hanger, seat binder bolt, and probably the rear wheel. The fork is also a replacement, and obviously, it is not the original paint job, either. The model was very common, and you can find numerous pictures of this model on the web.

non-fixie is right. It's good that you took so many pictures, and you did a pretty good job shooting them.

vwluc - You'll find that there are a lot of folks here who regard the U08 pretty highly - even though (as Tom pointed out) it was not an expensive bike.
Here's a thread where many of us got to show off our own U08's and variants thereof.

I wouldn't say wonderful, but I would say better than other bikes in its price range. The geometry also made it adaptable for many purposes. It was also moderately lightweight for its price range.

Somebody did some serious stuff on that UO8. For example, painted it but did the insides of the Aztec lugs the alternate color. It appears to have been highly regarded by that owner.
Nice bike. It can be lightened. But with or without lightening it should ride nicely.
