Try kuotient, cuda2k (or leave message on velobase) They know the area well.
At minimum, try to ride the TdAustin, which takes you to UT Campus (bell tower), SRV statute, along the river, and you can ride by LA's pad. We rode it, guided by cuda2k, when NAHBS visited Austin a couple of years ago.

I've never biked around there, but I've eaten there. If you like BBQ, there is none as good as that found at Iron Works BBQ. They are on the corner of Red River and East Cesar Chavez. Their Q is *the* *best* I have ever had, bar none.

Longhorns campus, although much more to see when the coeds are on campus.
Capital building
6th Street bars and clubs
The food trucks
If you can wangle a tour of a semiconductor FAB, that's worthwhile.
Lake Austin and the downtown Zilker park.
My high school buddy bought me a an unforgettable lap dance years ago, PM for details.

Depending on the dates, you should check out Frankenbike. Monthly swap meets held all over.

I never have attended the Austin one, only the ones in San Antonio.

If your visit happens to include a lucky score--I scan the Austin CL frequently and it's one of my favorites--and you need local packing service to ship that precious gem back home I can give an endorsement for Bicycle Sport Shop; the north store have packed a Zullo Special frame and fork and a complete Cinelli Equipe Centurion on my behalf and the work was top shelf.

Me three - I'll be in town some of the week of Jan 21 helping my son relocate down there. Any good brewpub or brewery suggestions? I guess I will have another CL to fritter away my time monitoring..... Thanks for the LBS recommendation 23skidoo.

Been twenty years since I spent any time there but you can't go wrong tooling around 6th street for some great free music.
There is an excellent Mexican restaurant just east of downtown, if I can only remember the name.....
Since there are only about 500 Mexican places in Austin, that shouldn't be too hard.
Have fun guys. Great town.

Jk. I need to get down there when it's a little warmer. I just found out my 19 year old sister has driven to Austin to stay with friends 3 times in just a year's time. I, myself, have never done this. Blows my mind.
