Trashy Messenger Bag

Not sure if this will find any interest here, but a lot of DIY'ers in C&V...

I figured out how to make a messenger bag out of trash bags (been done before) without a sewing machine (my addition). I created sheets of 16 ply thickness plastic using a clothes iron, then used said iron to fuse the seams. I will update with more details. Any ideas on where to repost this?

That is pretty cool. I'd love to see how you did it. Do you have a how-to or something like that?

As far as another forum where this might appeal to some folks, you might think about the Singlespeed & Fixed Gear forum. I have to warn you though, the folks there are not quite as friendly as here in C&V.

Shouldn't this be in the homeless bum subforum? They call it the "commuter" subforum on bike forums.

I didn't think about the Commuting subforum. Good catch holiday.

Bike bag out of trash bags? Now there's an idea whose time has come. I think. Nice work, Whiteside.

No, the homeless bum forum is called "car free living" or something like that. All are welcome there except, of course, the homeless bums living out of their cars.

Serioiusly, Whiteside, I'm curious how it holds up. I go through messenger bags pretty fast. They start out looking pretty good, and look like crap before long, and then I keep using them until they endanger the stuff I carry in them. This one... well, like I say mine always look like crap before too long, so what's the harm in skipping a step... ?

Bikes: Yes, please.

Now how about trash bags made from old inner tubes?

I agree it looks rough...but keep in mind this is a first prototye and I was figuring it out as I went. I think the material itself is pretty decent, however I will have to report back on durability and how the non-sewn seams hold up. I will be trying another and will make a pictorial on the process.

I salute you. Make a desirable purse from plastic grocery bags and I will worship you. That is a pretty good idea for a kiosk type business!

But seriously, how cool are thermoplastics? I will try different 'layups', possibly reinforcing with onion-bag or other tougher fibers...

Or inner tubes made from trash bags. I'm not going to be the guinea pig though.
