Well I've officially joined, who else has a viscount that they're proud to own?

Which generation: Lugged or fillet brazed

I was leaning towards the lugless, but any is fine in my book! Here I'll get the ball rolling, the Holstein Viscount.

Here's my mid 70's Aerospace Pro. It's an OEM mix of Lambert, Viscount, and Shimano parts. I've swapped the "Death Fork" for one made of steel.

I love Viscounts, This is the Aerospace Pro I rebuilt for my son. Gone is the death fork (stored in my shop) for a modern cro-mo piece.

I bought one from frank the welder and will build it up for my wife. I hope she likes it. She didn't like the last bike I build for her. She wants a bike light enough for her to lift and with wide-ish tires. I think this can take 27x1-1/4" tires, which might suffice.

The ad on the well-known classifieds site I responded to was already two weeks old and said: 'For free: 10-speed bike, Viscount, needs some work' and contained the picture below. I called anyway. It was still there. So off I went.



Shifting is performed by a Shimano Crane/Titleist combo, rims are NISI-EVIAN 27" , bar is a Milremo, bar stem a GB. Hubs, crankset and brake calipers are Viscount. Brake levers are Lambert.

But do you like it?

To own it: yes, absolutely. I love stuff that is out of the ordinary. Death fork? Well, if you're gonna die anyway ...
To ride it: dunno, haven't ridden it yet. The afore-mentioned work still needs to be carried out. Other projects kept getting in the way.

That is, until you started this thread. I just took it down from the attic:

Bike was upgraded to 7-speed index and sidepull calipers. I have since gone back to the OEM centerpulls and installed a proper Viscount saddle.

Just joined in order to browse this thread and post a few Viscount pictures up.
I had a Viscount back in 1979 and rode it into the ground by 1983.
My son picked up the Aerospace 'Pro this summer and it re-ignited my desire for the bike of my youth. Since then, I have picked up an all original 'Sport and a nice Sebring for my wife. I have another 'Sport I am tussling with at the moment but ultimately I am after a 'Pro. They ride like a dream, super light, and handle very well.

Two of my old college roommates back in '76-77 had Viscounts. Roomie Jim had a Viscount Pro, and at the time I had a bottom-rung Fuji 'Special Tourer', which was still a small step above the other roommate Tim's department-store Iverson. Both of ours were 40-pound behemoths. Jim's lightweight was a quantum leap above mine, so to keep up with him I soon upgraded to my current Fuji 'Special Road Racer' (aka S-10S), and Tim upgraded to a Viscount GT (Or GP?). Another guy in my dorm also got a Viscount GT(GP) a couple months later, but his had the 'pimple' wheels with the raised sections around each spoke hole.
