Frame Identification

Hello everyone. I am new to this forum and am in need of some help identifying a road frame. I am very curious to know what brand it may be. I was given a poorly spray painted frame. The person didn't sand or disassemble the bicycle before painting it with what seemed like many coats of spray paint. I stripped it down to bare metal and had a little fun with the paint scheme. Now i couldn't find any markings aside from the arrow head on the down tube. The serial number is m441371. It also had a Sugino crank set. That's all i really have for now. Thank you in advance.

The serial number format could apply to several different manufacturers, however the triangular clamp stop/locator suggests Miyata, in which case it would be a 1984 frame. The year is reasonable given features like top tube tunnels and a set of bottle bosses. The presence of a cable stop as opposed to shifter bosses, in conjunction with the era, indicates an entry level frame and this is supported by other features such as the stamped rear dropouts. However, the frame characteristics do not match any catalogued Miyata model for the period, so it may be a contract manufactured frame for a brand such as Koga-Miyata or Univega.

The frame may be hi-tensile steel or a CrMo main triangle with hi-tensile stays and forks. The best indicator to determine the main triangle composition would be the seat post diameter.

The serial number format does not match that used by any of the known Nishiki manufacturers.

Not sure the lugs are Miyata when combined with those seat stay caps. If it is, then looking at a Miyata 110, Sport Ten or Eighty SE.

Thank you all for the information, it looks like we are in a ball park which is a lot closer than i ever was. I spoke to my buddy and he says he remembers on of the frames being Panasonic but couldn't remember which one.

It's definitely not Panasonic based on the serial number format.
