what kind of basic silver colored racks are people buying for their classic tourer these days for a center mount (rear brake bolt)? it seems all the racks i see attach to both rear stays.

I can't tell for sure if the Nashbar rack is silver or black. I prefer silver.

FWIW 40lbs is listed as it's capacity....mine bent with 40ish lbs loaded into 2 panneirs. It kind of just squated down. So cheap ( both me and the rack) I bought a second about a year ago and it's been fine. I use it twice a week for grocery runs. The first one lasted a over a year so that's less than 14 cents a run....still cheaper than gas!

Jim Blackburn. Mine came from a bike swap. I think I paid $10 each for front and rear. The other one I have I ordered from a mail order house from an ad in the back of a magazine in the seventies.

I have a Blackburn that mounts to the rear center mount and is in excellent condition. Black in color. Send me an email if you're interested.

I went ahead and ordered one from Nashbar after I realized that the black color would go with my daughter's mountain bike. They sent me a silver one, so I'm going to put it on my MB-2. I'll post pictures this weekend. My first impression when I pulled it out of the box was that their quality hasn't slipped at all since the first year model I have.

I take it back now that I've examined the contents of the hardware bag. The brackets are flimsy carbon steel instead of the substantial and rustproof stainless used on the originals.

I may give it to my daughter after all.
