Bought a Miyata 710 today
The bike came with all stock parts even wheel/tires, except the group was Suntour BL. As far as I know, the stock is suntour cyclone. The owner said BLs are better than cyclone, but I am not that impressed during test ride.
This 710 is noticeably lighter than my centurion accordo which is one size smaller and made of Tange infinity tubing.
Another interesting details: each brake has a brace like attache that sits on top of the tires. Owner says it clear the tire of dirt, but wouldn't it just wear the tire out faster?
I don't think there is rust issue but if you spot one let me know.

I've had two of those, great bikes. The BL (Blue Line) black model is OK, I used a black Blue Line GT when I ran an alpine crank and it worked fine. Not as nice as the Cyclone or Cyclone Mark-II, certainly cheaper.,,I guess people don't like the "modern" aesthetic. And, my NOS Mark-II was well over $100..not worth it.
Nice paint, I wouldn't mind having a red one, I'd sexy it up with white tape and saddle, some sweet Ultremos. The dork disc, pump peg and mommie waterbottle would come off quickly, but each to their own. I also like old Shimano Exage lever spring brake sets for my Miyatas, but that's also a personal preference.

That 'brace' in the last pic is a tire-saver. The idea is to have it lightly touch the tire so as to flick thorns or glass shards out before the tire goes around again and punctures it. I still have those on my '75 Fuji.

so bl is lower than cyclone. Bummer. Thanks for the build advices, though I think I need to adjust the derailers to work perfectly first.
The tire saver sounds like a good idea, how come other bikes don't really have it?

Nice ride! I've got Blue Line on two bikes and am very impressed. Never had an issue with them and the shifting is very smooth.

I was a Miyata dealer when that bicycle came out. The frame was a stand out compared to other brands. Those frames were known for thier incredible stiffness. I was a pedal masher and those bicycles were great out of the saddle.

Common accessory bought at your LBS or mail-order houses in the '70s-early 80s. With the advent of Kevlar belted tires and plastic 'tire liners', they went by the wayside. I still use them because they're cheap and effective. Over the years and 45,000 miles, I've replaced both the plastic tubing and the flicking 'wire' on mine. For wire I used a broken stainless spoke bent to the proper shape. Plastic tubing is plastic tubing...

Actually, the rear tire flatted today. To be honest, both the tire and tube are pretty old, being the original from the 80s. What kind of 27" tires/tube can I get nowadays? Looking for the most durable set I can get.
Also would appreciate some tips on adjusting the rear derailer. Is it pretty much like the modern ones? Cannot find the "h" and "l" marker though.
